How to tell if 16750 is matte dial?

I recently acquired a 1983 Rolex GMT 16750. What would I need to look for to determine whether or not it is a matte dial version? Also does this make it more desirable or valuable? Thanks for the help from a noobie!

White gold surrounds on the hour markers and glossy sheen is not matte.

If it has whie gold metal rings around the hour markers it is a glossy dial. Many of the glossy dials have taken on a flat or matte finish as they age.

Thank you! So it definitely has the white gold around the markers. Is this desirable?

Some people prefer matte, some people prefer glossy. All that matters is what you prefer. Or, if you are a seller, what a buyer prefers.

GMT 16750 glossy dial variations are not highly desirable especially when compared to the other GMT models unless it is a watch without issues.

Many of these watches have, or had, dial issues due to corrosion and/or cracking. As you will probably have guessed, many dials have been replaced with later service dials or they still retain their original cracked or corroded dials. The same issues are true for the hands. I rarely see a nice example for sale - and with that said, if you find a nice original example with a dial and hands without issues, it would be a keeper for sure.

Here is one I owned for many years, without any issues, all original, unpolished, which was a complete set. It has since been sold and brought close to matte dial money considering it was an unpolished, original set.

Love it, JP! So my watch is likely a 1983 GMT 16750 with a matte dial?

Looks glossy to me. White gold around the hour plots...

Nice one!

If it can be of any help, i decided to buy a 16750 glossy dial because (1) I love the bezel of the 1675/16750 and the vintage style of it (2) the 16750 matte dial was above my budget and (3) it would not be a daily watch hence the need of a modern one, the 16700 and the GMT II, was not a requirement

Just my two cents...

Whether it is the best one from an investment point of view, i don’t know but i don’t care as i love it

No, it is a glossy dial. It has white gold rings around the hour markers. Matte dials did not.

Below is a matte dial.
