De bethune watches need advice!!!
Hi I may end up picking up a De Bethune watch and needed some advice?
- do they retain value like Rolex? - are they considered Haute Horology? _ history on the brand? - are they easy to resell if you get tired of them? Cheers and thanks to all in advance! |

1) Ha ha ha ha... Seriously though, very very few models from other brands mimic Rolex's steel models residuals – everything else suffers typical depreciation levels.
2) Absolutely! 3) You'll appreciate the reward more of doing your own research on the brand's history, etc, rather than just being spoonfed it. 4) Easy is a relative term, but there will be far less buyers than many other brands. Buy (if possible) pre-owned and with the intention of keeping long term – the right piece could be one that you never tire of, making the whole thing a moot point. I'm unaware of anyone on this forum having bought a De Bethune – it's bad enough trying to persuade them to look at Mosers or Girard-Perregauxs! – so you'd be best to spend time looking at the threads on PuristSPro's De Bethune section, and Timezone too. |

I think the brand is so cool! BUT you will take a complete bath on this brand should you decide to sell. Expect to lose 50% and have a very very hard time selling

DeBethune makes some amazing watches. Seriously, some of the most beautiful and unique I've ever tried on.
You will get killed on resale. Try to buy preowned, or even at places like Cellini in NYC they've offered 35% discounts, so make sure you buy right. It's not a brand that's well known, but those who know, know. I'd put it below Greubel but, at least in terms of aesthetics, above FP Journe in terms of independents. The watches are also insanely comfortable. Which model are you considering? |

Great watches, but value plummets after initial sale due to very light secondary market. People are taught the word "Rolex" almost from the day they are born. Hard to compete with value retention built in to that kind of brand recognition.

Depending on budget, you may also want to consider the DB28, with its novel hinged lugs, which are available in two lengths, making it suitable for those with a smaller/rounder wrist shape. https://www.chrono24.com/debethune/d...-id6689565.htm https://www.chrono24.com/debethune/d...-id6900704.htm |

Residual values are crap, you want a huge discount going in so you at least keep half your face from being ripped off on the way out. The other issue is liquidity, even if you can find a buyer at a not so distressed price you will likely be waiting a long time to find them. Not my watch, but my wrist. I've tried a lot of these on over the years and I do like the 28. This one is called the Dark Shadows and it's a beauty. |

You’ll hit all of your points and have peace of mind... Or, you could opt for a Rolex Cellini dress watch ... my 2cents Ahlan wa Sahlan... |
