Alternatives to the Daytona

Can anyone suggest an alternative to the Daytona? Please don't give me grief but I am finding it on the small side... I'm on my third and each time the initial thrill is amazing but then the same thought returns, if only it was a little bigger, 42mm would be perfect. The sub and gmt are 40 but they wear bigger, why does the Daytona look so small?

No Omega Speedmaster professional as I want an automatic, the other speedmasters are way too thick!

Don't want to spend crazy money so under 5k

you can get a speedy, just like the original that is mechanical, except it is an automatic. I dont know the reference number, but it exists. pretty much exactly identical. but no winding necessary.

AP ROC. Thinner than a Speedy and it’s an automatic.

I had the fast rider 42000cn and I really didn't like it either. I'm looking for SS with bracelet. If I could get an AP ROC for under 5k...wow!!
The steinhart looks interesting but I'm not sure how accurate they are. I'm a bit anal about accuracy, one of the reasons why Rolex is my number one brand

I know you ruled out the Speedy but you could get a MOONWATCH
OMEGA CO-AXIAL CHRONOGRAPH 44.25 MM reference 311.30.44.51.01.002 if you want an automatic.

The manual Speedy does seem like a lot of hassle and it put me off getting one for ages. When I finally did get one ,the manual winding really is no big deal as the crown is not screwed down, so you can wind it quickly on the wrist and it becomes part of a nice little ritual. At 42mm it sits nicely on the wrist and is relatively lightweight.

If you are completely against a Speedy fair enough, if not I'd keep it open as an option.

The clear answer right there......I think you should try a manual wound watch for a bit if you never gave it a try.....there is a special connection to the watch IMO to manually wind every couple days.

But there simply is no alternative! ; If you aren’t interested in the Speedy, I’d say Black Bay Chrono. BUT I can’t get over the fact that the screw down crown and pushers have different knurling. Seems like such a sloppy miss and unbecoming of Tudor who are generally excellent with design and finishing details on their sport watches.

I think its the difference in the crowns and pushers that make it ugly. Its such a mismatch

Certain Speedmasters are 42mm, 14mm thick (exactly same size as Speedy Pro) but have automatic movement. Had this one and was an automatic, 42mm size, 14mm thick
and automatic

That's nice. I saw one with the dial reversed which I think was one of the few Schumacher editions. Zenith is nice but I don't think I'll get a decent one for under 5k. Breitlings I find a bit fussy looking!
Just looked at the JLC deepsea chrono, wow!!! Price maybe an issue however...
And I'm looking more into the Tudor BB chrono, the watch is very impressive for the price.

Breitling Transocean is the non-fussy one, esp the Panda dial. Also like the TBB Chrono.

I have a speedmaster from 1992, it's slightly thicker than a Daytona and may be alittle smaller in diameter. Keeps great time, has a date and is an automatic. These watches are less than 5k used.

I'm still looking for the right speedmaster, or bb chrono. I really don't want to go over 5k, spent way too much on watches recently

Tudor big block. You can't get closer to that.

Didn’t see the under $5k part. I just read Daytona and figured you were prepared to spend some money.

My chronograph is a Breitling LE Blackbird. It’s aviation chronograph heritage and scale was just what I like.

Looks great on its factory rubber strap.

The Zenith el primero is said to be a very well made 42mm chronograph with date. Personally I much prefer the Speedmaster at this pricepoint, but if it appeals to you it's available brand new at jomashop at under $5k with plenty to spare...

I'm not necessarily endorsing the watch or the vendor, just passing along info.
