PO or Sub?

Dear I say...

PO any day. What a fantastic watch. In fact the PO is the new Sub!
How about that?

The PO is good looking but it's definitely not the new sub.
It's heavier, it's thicker, resale value isn't as good as the sub and it's not as iconic.

But it could become that, couldn't it?
I'm sure there was a pre-historic time, when the icon was not a sub.
Guess I'm like this because I was on the fence between the two and went a way with the PO. And NOT regretting it. If I did I would get the sub as well.
So there!

Great looking watch.
Size wise it doesn't work for me as well as my GMT, but that's just me.
IMHO, Omega represents among the very best values available today.
Enjoy your watch!

Um... Not even close. Nice watch, but the sub will always be the new sub. Great first post though...

Not really the new Sub.

1.The Omega bracelet looks like a fancy bracelet link for fashion jewelry style unlike the new Sub ceramic 114060 brushed solid oyster bracelet that looks very minimalist and serious looking design with adjustable clasp. I like the no nonsense look of the new robust oyster bracelet.

2. The Omega hour number 12, 9, 6 gives the dial the unbalance look. I like the Rolex 114060 maxi dial markers because they are in uniform. I do not like numbered hour markers especially 12, 9, 6. It make the dial look comical.

I'm a vintage Tritium Speedy Pro owner, so not just "drinkin' the Rolex Kool Aid", but the bracelet looks, as others have said, very fashion watch-looking, not rugged tool watch-looking like the Oyster. I do like the trademark Broad Arrow hands and the hobnail dial, but the "baloonish" bracelet and the disproportionately narrow-appearing chapter ring, IMHO, keep it from being the iconic classic that the Sub is.

But, compared to most other offerings out there it is a fine watch one should be proud to own.

I don't think the Planet Ocean can simply push the Sub off the throne, the Submariner is an appreciated icon for almost 60 years now, it is the mother of all sports/divers watches and that image can't just be replaced by something else.

The Planet Ocean is an excellent watch, it truly is, but saying it's the new Sub is like saying the Audi R8 is the new Porsche 911, it just isn't and never will be.

Also, the PO is not as comfortable on the wrist as the Sub.

I am not a fan of the Sub, admire the heritage and all, but don't really crave it. That said,
I have to agree that while the PO is nice, specially the 8500, it is not close to being the new Sub. Neither the heritage, nor nearly as recognizable, as the Sub, which is still the standard against which all divers are judged. Personally, I dislike the height of the PO, and the invisble doble AR coated crystal doesn't tickle my fancy. Just my 2 cents.

The answer to the "PO or Sub" question is clear, the answer is YES!

Unique watches with great manufacturers and pedigrees, they aren't the same watch so it's totally acceptable to own both, as many here do...

Doubt it.

Knowing Omega, they'll get rid of the PO design completely for a full re-design once the PO starts to look dated (which it will imo). They'll probably change the name for the new version too.

But the Sub will still be around and mostly unchanged.

:)

The PO will never become an iconic watch... EVER! Omega keeps shooting itself in the foot, so to speak, by making literally dozens of different iterations of the PO, varying in size, materials, colors, and complications... and that's not to mentions the endless productions of "limited editions" which typically have very little about them which is limited.

The only iconic omega is the speedmaster pro and if omega keeps going the way they are they'll end up muddling that heritage too with over baked special editions.

The sub is a quintessential iconic watch and almost certainly retain that honor long into the future.

I have a Sub C No Date and I wouldn't trade it in for anything. Good looking, comfortable and accurate. One great diver is good enough for me. Next purchase is the Speedy Pro, already on order.

I'm afraid that when women wear a watch its reduces its street cred as a mans watch. How many women wear the 45.5 mm PO. Case dismissed, PO all the way
And as for the movement comparison... Rolex need to up their game very soon I think. Just my 2 cents worth.

I'm not sure exactly what you're saying. But I think you're rooting in some way for omega? I guess due to the fact that woman wear the sub? I've personally seen more women wearing a po. Anyhow, the question is the po the new sub, and you're right, case dismissed. The sub is the most iconic dive/tool watch ever. period.

Rolex needs to up their game as to their movements? The Sub C has a terrific movement. After 4 1/2 months my Sub C loses an average of 1.4 seconds per day. The PO does any better?

What is wrong with the 3135? Rugged... Accurate... What more can you realistically want from a movement? Sure it's not the most beautiful movement out there but without a display case back who the heck cares.

Other than the reasonably nice finishing on the 8500 it isn't much of an improvement over the 3135. The co-axial movement is 95% marketing 5% substance.

while it has not yet been proven. im willing to bet that the coaxial movement will turn out to be better than the 3135.

Better based on what???

Suffice to say both are great movements and will outlast the original owner with a little bit of maintenance along the way. I do find it amusing, however, how so many people have professed the co-axial to be the best thing ever... but don't know why except omega says so.

This is exactly the reaction I was after, a lively for/against discussion.
Did go through the previous threads but didn't find much of this. Seems some gentle provocation did the trick.

Thanks for a good discussion.

I will follow some of the posters advise and get me both watches...

You may be disappointed to find WOMEN wearing a PO...it does come in a 37.5mm for US women.

Sub is more iconic. Po is less expensive.

Both great watches in their own right. This discussion has been had ad nauseam and is, quite frankly, silly.
