3800 Information

I would like information about the 3800.
What movement does it take? Is it the same as the 5711?
My wrist size over 6.5" and the 3800 is a 37.5mm. Will it be fine?

The 3800 was considered "mid-size" 'in its day at 37.5 mm compared to the earlier "jumbo" version at 42mm. Unlike its predecessor that had a JLC based movement, the 3800 was powered by Patek's own cal 355 SC.

The current version (5711) uses the cal 324 iirc.

I'm not at all a fan of Patek's "sports watches", but nevertheless the nautilus, despite being a radical concept when it was introduced in 1976, clearly has developed a strong following.

AFAIK the earlier 3800 had the Caliber 335, but later was updated to Caliber 330. I haven't heard of any issues with reliability with these movements.

^^^ This is the correct information.
The only issue I've heard about is the shorter power reserve of the 335, but otherwise a fine movement I'm sure.

These earlier watches had the caliber where the winding crown easily pulled out with too much pressure and you had it in your hand. Supposedly owners could twist and push it in to reseat it back into the movement. I never could figure out how to reseat it. I finally sold my Nautilus in the 1980's or there about and remember the winding crown was scotch taped to the front of the watch. Ah, such fine memories.

No worry due to the monoblocque case the crown system is different than other watches, xiu win t have issues if you use it properly .Contact with the seller about paperwork COO or EFA and the last service done ,get a good price and go for it.

I have a Datejust 16234 of 36mm.

I see it well. The 3800 will look smaller than the Datejust?

It will look smaller, the bezel on a Nautilus is pretty thick, so the 3800 will appear like it's 34-35mm on the wrist.

My wrist is larger than 6.5”.

I had the 5711 previously and hated the size after a while. This 3800/1 is the perfect size for me.

No 5711 Photos

Sorry, I don't have any photos of my 5711, which is really strange when I think about it, as I took photos of every other watch I've had.

Looks perfect on your wrist. I am also trending away from the over 38mm watches, simply too big for me.

Size wise you won't have any issues, although I would go for a 5711, but thats me, Im afraid of vintage pieces and I love how reliable a modern watch like the nautilus is, perhaps, so good that it can be a one and only.
