\\Apple Watch Owners thread//
This new Series 4 with LTE has really changed my mind about the AW. I picked up one in SS Space black, this thing is really impressive. This is my third AW but first with LTE and in SS. I know a lot of people say they don’t wanna be that connected, but I honestly feel less connect because I can leave the phone behind. The amount of info I can load on one face has really been nice. The quality is like all Apple products, SS and sapphire is really nice. Any other owners out there and what are your thoughts? For now the mechanical watches are not getting much use. I think I will always own a mechanical watch, but this has really been a game changer for me. Heck even Ben over at Hodinkee owns one.

I've had a Series 3 LTE for a little over a year and couldn't be happier with it. I only wear it when I'm exercising, sleeping, or doing anything active which could damage one of my mechanical pieces. It's the perfect tool watch.

I can't bring myself to own a watch that requires daily maintenance such as charging. It was bad enough I had to wind a Speedmaster every couple of days or annually change the battery on the Suunto Core.

The era of smart watches is definitely a game changer. Has its positives and negatives. I personally own an Apple Watch series 4 and love it, BUT nothing compares to a good ol ticker.

that’s why I tried to hide it over here, maybe if I ask questions like hey should I wear my Apple Watch or just keep it as an investment, it will better blend. The more I read over on the Rolex side the more I’m drawn away. Not getting rid of my SMP anytime soon.

I'm with you though. I rarely go over you the Rolex side of this forum anymore. There's only so much interest I can get reading about waitlists and grey market prices. This and the Omega subforum are infinitely more interesting to me...Apple watch content included.

It’s interesting, before self-winding movements wasn’t this the routine for all watches? Daily winding of a wristwatch, and before that pocketwatches, was the morning routine for all owners. Now we are coming full circle with battery driven smartwatches I do have a series 4AW LTE and had the series1 & 3 before it. The only jiggle I have with the current one is the sensors and software for “falling” and “activity” is buggy. I’ll be chopping wood or shaking up a rattle can of spray paint and the AW asks if I’ve fallen. It should know from the other sensors that I’m upright (in other words the watch did not drop 5’ down). The new activity sensor will think I’ve stopped an exercise like stationary bike because I’m not moving the arms. The old series3 didn’t have that issue. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Now we are coming full circle with battery driven smartwatches /QUOTE] There is a difference. Manual wind watches can be done on the fly in a matter of seconds. I can manually wind a watch anywhere, as long as a have fingers. If I forget to charge a smartwatch... that's it. I'm screwed until I can find an outlet or wireless charging. And even then, it takes time before it's charged to a usable amount.

True but now the comparison would be a digital watch of any ilk - battery dies and your Casio is useless.
FWIW, all should charge AW’s overnight. The battery will go 2 days so you’ll be fine. Ever since the series1 there hasn’t been a 1-day battery problem. If your 1950’s watch lost power it’s really no different than your smartwatch, you ask someone else what time it is Everyone keeps their mobile with them during the day so comms will survive a watch battery. I wear my AW 4 when exercising ... great for tracking distance, Heart Rate, calories, etc. I also have about 2GB of MP3's on it so don't need to carry my phone to listen to music on my PowerBeats or earPods.

I thought hard about getting the Series 4, but went with the Garmin Fenix 5x Plus instead. For health and fitness tracking, I think the Garmin a slight edge.
I was anti-smart watch for a long time, but I honestly love this thing. I haven’t even worn my mechanical watches since getting the Garmin lol. |

I upgraded from a Series 1 to a Series 4 and I am very happy with it. Excellent product.

Just bought my first AW at New Years. I’m surprised how much I use it and yes I pull out the phone less even with the WiFi only version because all the info I need at a glance is on my wrist.

Apart from a big screen TV, my wife would just assume be Amish. She doesn’t really care that much about technology. Just her and her horses; one of which loves watching TV by the way.
She runs a lot on some of the mountain trails and she doesn’t always like to carry her phone. She’s also encountered, bears, (no biggie), mountain lions and rattlesnakes, both of which she’s petrified of; so, I usually get the call to assist. She’s also works at a place where her boss doesn’t like to see employees using their phones while in the public eye. I got her a Series 4 with he cellular and she LOVES it! She can start a conversation with me if she needs to and no one is the wiser. Folks think she’s talking to herself! It’s also great for timing her workouts and checking heart rates, etc.

Not much this thing can’t do! My new grill partner. I know there isn’t much love for this watch, but I miss it when it’s not on.

Picked one up two weeks ago mostly for fitness purposes, havo not taken it off and my real watches are collecting dust.
Premium brands better get on the smartwatch train fast, as much as I like the apple watch, I'd love a Rolex case with an apple watch inside.

I wear my Apple watch Series 4 in rotation with my SubC and DJ41. I generally wear the Apple watch on a couple of work days per week. The watch is handy when sitting in meetings where you can glance down and see incoming text messages or phone calls.
Mine is the 44mm highly polished stainless steel (silver) model with the sapphire crystal. It is actually a very nice looking watch with an aftermarket Barton black leather band. Usually by Wednesday or Thursday, I move to my Rolex watches and wear them through the weekend. |
