Gritty manual windig

Before I rush off to the RSC, I'd like to hear your opinion.
I bought my Explorer new about a year and a half ago.
So far no complaints. I have been wearing it daily, only occasionally winding the watch manually.

Yesterday wanted to wind the watch manually again after it sat idle for about 30 hours. In stead of the butter smooth winding I was used to with this watch, the winding felt and sounded gritty, sandy and inconsistent. So much so that I decided not to wear the watch, just in case something was broken.

The watch itself seems to be doing fine. It still keeps good time, and it was still going this morning, so I am sure the actual winding mechanism is working. It just feels much different.

Any ideas?

It is the slipping clutch mechanism that prevents you from over winding. Nothing to worry about.

That's what I thought at first but it feels worse than that and the watch was off my wrist for more than a day. How can the spring be overwound? I never had this issue before.

Maybe someone in the house is secretly wearing it and messed it up. 30 hrs is a long time for gremlins to play w the watch

haha, very funny.
Anyway, went to the AD to let them have a look at the watch. The salesman was not worried at all, he did not notice anything unusual. Well, I am quite sure that the winding was much smoother before.

Oh well, I guess it's just one of those things.

That's not a reliable opinion...

Not in this case, the watch was idle for 30hours. The mainspring will only slip when fully wound, not after 30 hours when you start winding. And it's not a clutch, it's the mainspring slipping inside the barrel.

OP, if it doesn't feel good and this problem remains I'd take it to a watchmaker.
