Tiffany Co. Rolex

So I have a Tiffany Co. Datejust. It has a blue dial that is shot. So I am getting it repaired, will this hurt the value of the watch?

Year, calibre and picture would be helpful. Generally, if your having the repair done by a reputable and known firm I would think it should not hurt it's value. If you are having it repaired cheaply by "Earine Two Thumbs," then who knows.

You’ll need more posts before you can post a pic

I think you need 10 posts

Then, an easy way to post a pic is to use the app Tapatalk

Hard to know what "shot" means. Some dials look well with an aged look.

I can answer that without a picture.
If it is a documented Tiffany dialed Rolex, refinishing or repairing the dial will affect value.

But without documentation then many collectors would pass on paying anyway

This is definitely a vintage piece. Please please do not replace or “repair” the dial. Most will recommend retaining its current, original condition.

I took his post to mean he was having the watch repaired, not the dial refinished. Maybe he will enligbhten us.

I maybe in the minority... I think it only matters if you intend to sell it or trade it in the future. I enjoy my watches and if I end up selling my watch (haven't sold one yet), it will go for whatever it goes for.

Having what repaired?

If the watch does not work, then by all means, you should definitely have it repaired. A non-working watch isn't much good to anybody.

If you mean only the dial needs to be repaired???? I would say that you should never repair or replace a dial unless it is absolutely necessary. You seem to imply that it may be necessary, meaning the dial is not likely to be a valuable/desirable attribute.

Except in extremely rare examples (where only a handful may exist), a new proper dial will be worth more than a thrashed example. Nobody pays for garbage unless that garbage is very, very unique.

I also have a Tiffany branded Datejust. The dial is as new, but when I have sent the watch to RSC for routine service in the past, they have reached out to me and warned me that if the dial is damaged, they cannot replace it with a Tiffany branded dial. They will replace it with a non-Tiffany branded dial of the same year in any color at the owner's request. Since the Tiffany branded dial is unique, and most older Datejusts aren't top value retainers in any case (at least for now), I would be very reluctant to give up the Tiffany dial. You might want to confirm if you request RSC to NOT replace the dial when servicing your watch that they will comply with your request.

Thank you all for the replies, I am still trying to figure out how to even get back to my original post. But yes, I meant that i was just having the dial refinished. And it is by a very reputable Rolex dealer that has been doing it since the 60's. And the Tiffany Co. mark will still be on the dial. Model number is 16220. And I have a picture but can't figure out how to post it on here.

I'd steer clear of refinishing the dial. What exactly happened to the watch to make you think you need to revamp the dial? Moisture damage? .....Either way, a refinished dial is going to send the value to the bottom. If it's just for you and you don't care about the value and just want to keep it in the family etc.....then that's a personal choice.

It had moisture damage and the whole dial has water damage. It would be to resell though.

Wait on the repair until you post pics and the experts on here can advise you. You might be devaluing your watch and you want to avoid that given your goal of selling it on.

I too have an old Tiffany & Co. branded Rolex. It's a GMT Master 1675 two tone rootbeer from 1971 I got from my dad for graduation, I'm 53 now. recently took it out of the drawer it was resting in for the last decade or two. I thought the band was getting a little worn and thought it maybe better not to wear until I had replaced the band. I never replaced the band… When I brought it into my local authorized Rolex dealer they did not even notice the Tiffany and Co branding but still advised me not to change anything on the watch, which is a little beat up. They said service by Rolex but do not replace any of the parts as they are irreplaceable. That would include the scratched up bezel, worn and stretched jubilee bracelet, and especially not the dial if it has a Tiffany & Co. co-branded stamp, which I pointed out after they did a little research. I did have them buff out the scratches on the plastic crystal but that would be it. It was serviced by Rolex just prior to living in the drawer so the movement is good. I have attached a few pics for reference. Hopefully it works, this is my first post!

NICE - I would take that bracelet off and send it to the gents recommend on here who will make it lovely. When it comes back put it on that lovely watch and enjoy for 20+ years!

You said the dial itself is shot. I'm not sure what the value of a Tiffany dial is on a Datejust. If you send it to RSC they usually replace dials if needed during a service. Keep us posted!

Do you have any Tiffany paperwork or receipt? Even if you know it to be authentic, nobody will beleave it without documentation unfortunately. There are a lot of Tiffany fakes out there.

Is (was) the retail price on a new Rolex Sub vs. a Tiffany Sub different? Is Tiffany up-charging to have their name on the dial?

If you don’t have the paperwork supporting it as a Tiffany watch it isn’t worth anymore than any other Datejust.
