That thing is unbelievable. 227 mph on a PUBLIC ROAD! It sounds like a jet airplane!

That's the way germans build roads here. There are some germna highways where there is no speed limit.

Yup. I was lucky enough to be stationed there in the early 80's. I just meant it's still mind boggling to think of driving that fast on a freeway, even if it is an autobahn.

Not a lot of room for error. Very fast I must say.

Yep, seen it in person myself.....my uncle lives in Machenbach, small dorf outside Ramstein AFB....Autobahn is right near there. He has a MB and we once were doing @ 130 kph (so @ 210 mph) and we were blown away by a black Porche (couldn't tell wich model it was it was going so fast!). Incredible speeds.....wouldn't want to try it myself.

They limited the car to 1001 hp because of the tires. The engine can go up to 1175 hp.

as a person who builds fast cars and has driven fast cars for most of my life i cannot begin to imagine even one reason for this car having a normal shoulder restraint seat belts. cost couldn't have been a consideration on this car. it is beyond me why it doesn't have a five point restraint harness. a high speed crash in this car isn't survivable and all this car is for is high speed driving. what were they thinking?

I can think of several reasons. One of them sounds a bit silly but I don't think it makes much difference if you crash at 300 Kmph or 400 Kmph, you're as dead as a doornail. And I guess this almost 2 million dollar car (on which VW loses almost half a million each) will NOT be bought by the average Joe. Most of them wind up in a collection to never be driven. The car starred in a Top Gear episode where it was driven to the max. It handled like an average saloon car and was very easy to drive.

nascar drivers survive 200 mph crashes every weekend and those cars cost about 175,000.00. i still see no excuse for it.

Nascar cars are equipped with a roll cage, automatic fire extinguishing system, impact resistant and cell filled fuel tanks and many more safety features that the Veyron lacks. But I do get your point.

My wife and I have scheduled to fly into Germany this summer to pick up a Lamborghini through Euro Sportiva. We plan on driving through the Autobahn into Italy onto the Autostrada. I have heard from few friends of mine it is awesome experience.

The car above looks like the Batmobile.

The experience with Euro-Sportiva sounds awesome . Kind of pricey, but most fun things in life are. They have great vehicles that most of us would die to drive. Have fun. Sounds like a once in a lifetime experience .
