6R35 Mainspring Barrel Gear Question

I’m somewhat new to the watch hobby, so if this is a silly question, please just disregard and move on.

I purchased the new 2020 alpinist earlier this year. I absolutely love the watch but something on the movement looks super funky to me. I think this is the gear on the mainspring - but like I said - new to the community so I may be wrong.

The watch is only a few months old, but the gear has quite a bit of black build up on it. I’ve posted a picture here.

I’ve scoured the internet to see if this is normal and just can’t find a satisfactory answer. Most pictures I find of the 6r35 movement do not have the same issue. I don’t own any of the photos ive found online so I have not posted one here. But finding photos of the movement is fairly easy.

I assume that the black stuff is oil. My questions are: (1) is that the gear on the mainspring barrel; (2) is the build up likely oil; (3) is it normal for this type of watch that’s only a few months old to have that much residue on the gear?

I know this is a fairly inexpensive watch that probably shouldn’t have a sapphire case back in the first place. I’m just curious if this is normal and to be expected.

Thanks so much for the input and for the fantastic community. Cheers from Dallas.

If it is running fine then leave it be. Seiko won't warranty it unless there is an issue. For me personally I would be fine with it.

It probably is lubricant, and it probably doesn’t matter at all.
