My 16750 GMT Master after service at NY RSC

Hey Everyone,

Finally getting around to posting photos of my 16750 after service. I actually received it back in the middle of December, but just haven't had time to take some decent photos.

It was given a full service, keeping the original dial and hands, and had a light polish. I actually had them install a new bezel insert with the stipulation that I receive my original fat-font one back (red back). They agreed, and I kept the new one on for a couple weeks but then put the original one back on. I figured it was easier getting a spare from the RSC during service, than potentially buying another insert later at a much higher price from a dealer. The new insert has a slightly thinner font that I'm not as fond of as the originals though. Anyway, you can see that in the photos with the watch off the wrist, it has the new style insert and the wrist shots have the original back in place.

Oh and they actually initially replaced my date wheel with a more modern one without asking (it was not on the service confirmation) and it did not have the open 6's and 9's. I expressed my unhappiness since I did not ask for this and was told that the teeth on the original were worn. Luckily the service manager was able to find a NOS date wheel that has the open 6's and 9's and installed it for me, so all is well! The vintage font on the date wheel is one of the things I love the most about the watch.

Enjoy the photos...

I love what NY did with your watch!

It looks new, but still retains the charm of a vintage!

Dam that looks great, and I'm happy to hear that they corrected the date wheel

Seems to be within COSC specs. I haven't timed it over a few days, but I did check it a couple times when I first picked it up. It was within +6 for the day, if not better. It will probably settle down a bit too after a few months. I am satisfied with the timekeeping though. I am sure if it were out of spec, Rolex would happily adjust it for me.

That's my favorite of all the vintage GMT's: the matte-dialed 16750. Very nice!
Hey: so when they changed the date wheel to a new one--did you have to send it back or did they tell you over the phone first?...before you had them fine the NOS one with the open numbers...??

Thanks! I dropped it off and picked it up, and when I initially picked it up, I thought all was fine. The date was not one of those which obviously showed that the font was different. The wheel did look whiter than I had remembered. A few days later it was the 26th and the 6 was closed! I had also in days after picking it up noticed that there was some dirt in the tritium markers that had not been there before. I was unhappy so I brought it back to Rolex NY and showed them the dirt, which they removed (the gentleman explained that the tritium is porous so some dust must have gotten trapped), and I explained that the date wheel had been changed even though it had not been disclosed on the service confirmation. I told them that I preferred the original which was appropriate for the time period of the watch, and that the new style was for a newer watch. The gentleman helping me said he would look into it. When he returned he said that I was correct that this new style date wheel was not a match for this watch and he would try to locate the original part and have it swapped back in. I was pleasantly surprised by this. I left the watch behind and received a call from the service manager who explained that the teeth on the original were worn, so that is why it had to be replaced. However, he had managed to find a proper date wheel, which I am guessing was NOS. It has the proper font, and look like the original, so I am quite pleased. It is also not so bright white as the one that they had fitted before.

I hope this helps.

Perhaps Rolex NY is coming around to working with the vintage enthusiasts at bit more? I had expected that they would tell me that they were right and I was wrong.

Looks great Ian! I much prefer the clean and fresh non patina look on 16750 (although most will disagree with me). Glad that NY RSC was able to accommidate your requests. The more options available to the vintage collector the better.

Thanks, my dial/hands aren't too dark at all... pretty much eggshell. The hands have some corrosion, but it doesn't bother me. I like the look of a semi-faded bezel insert. It looked too new with the one that Rolex had installed. The colors were just a little more intense.
