Icon8 Beware $1000.00 mistake

If anyone is thinking of sending their watch to Jeff Hermann at watchrepair.net for any reason don't do it.If you have sent your watch in to him and are waiting for its return you are in for a big surprise.
I sent my datejust to him on Jan 25 2012,on Feb 1 Jeff called to say he received it and it would be $769.00 for service and a new crown and main spring,i also included a aftermarket diamond dial when i sent it in and Jeff said he would install the new dial i sent and he would send the original back when repair was complete.I paid the $769.00 waited for the watch.
On feb 9 i received an email saying that my watch was being sent to me FEDEX.Delivery came today and my watch was in a box with a letter saying that repairs were not completed and they are filing bankruptcy, and to make matters worse my aftermarket dial was not returned nor any of the $769.00
Can't say how foolish i feel for getting scammed by this a-hole.
I only hope no one else is waiting for repairs on their watch from Jeff Herman at watchrepair.net in Boca Raton Fl.
His website is still up,stay away.

Ouch. Sorry to hear that. For $769, any reason you didn't send to RSC for service? Obviously they wouldn't have touched the diamond dial - was that the driving factor?

If you paid by cc called them (cc company) and dispute the charge, as for the dial, that's tough. Very sorry to hear, funny that they fessed up tht the work wasn't done, they as easily could have said they serviced it and didn't do the dial. On the bright side, they returned the watch. Good luck, you'll get you money back. Just contact the cc and send them a copy of what they sent you. Thanks for the heads up.

Always! Time is of the essence! I usually don't deal with the claims directly but I believe your window is only 30 days! Go to your nearest branch and file a claim tomorrow if at all possible. Alternatively, if you can't make it to a banking center, you can call in to your financial institution's toll-free 24 hour customer service number to get the claim started. Due to the amount of the charge, they may require you to fill out an affidavit. Once a claim is filed, they usually provide a provisional credit while the "investigation" is completed (Meaning until they receive your signed affidavit.) It's very important that you return that affidavit in a timely matter or you will loose your right to the claim. Do you happen to be a Wells Fargo client? If so, I may be able to help. Best of luck

Hmm, I wonder if you could do a charge back? It should work, like a stop payment on a check. I've recently read horror stories of trusted sellers which were robbed by the buyers by doing exactly that. Somehow they pulled the money out of the sellers accounts even though it had cleared. I would call my bank! As for Jeff, look for him on Facebook or any other social media and post on his wall something like: hey, you stole money from me and a diamond dial. Pay back. You would be surprised how many times people do pay back in order to maintain their reputation among friends etc. it's worth a try IMO good luck

Yeah a debit charge even though it ran through your bank is a credit purchase in a sense so you can get your money back!

All charges are cleared end of month so it still hasn't reach their bank account. Hurry and dispute! You may need to provide that letter to the bank for them to investigate the matter but it should work.

What a bunch of crooks.

Bad news.

FWIW: Never, ever use a debit card on a major purchase (I say never use one at all!). It provides little to NO protection for you as a buyer. Use a credit card instead, it has an automatic 90 day window in which you can file a chargeback.

Why would you pay the $769 before the watch was repaired?

The benefits of a separate insurance policy. The cost of your dial and the $769 would be your claim and covered.

Not sure that statement is 100% accurate. If it is I'm changing my method of purchases point forward.

My credit union only allows you to use your card as credit, this makes it Visa's responsibility.

I sent my (Omega) watch to Swiss Time Services, they produced a quote for the services and then payment had to be made up front. I assume that there must be other repair places that work like this.
