Might Have Been Scammed?

Hi guys,

I'm new here so sorry if I'm missplacing this post.
I recently bought a used 1997 Rolex Submariner Twotone from somebody I met in a similar forum to this one.

Watching a Youtube video got me a little worried that I may have bought a knock off.

First of all, the watch came with a warranty certificate saying one year, while the guy in the video said Rolex always only had five year warranties.

Second thing is the box:

Guy in the video shower a similiar green box and explained Rolex never made a box like that? Same about the internal box.

This is the watch itself:

And the certificate of waranty:

Please guys, any keen eyed observations will help! If this is fake I have to find out as soon as possible so I can track down the seller

You should not make decisions based on You Tube videos.

Rolex only started with 5 year warranties this past year, 2015.

Welcome... Moderators will most likely move this to another section (Watch Out). The model looks correct to the period when Rolex made those boxes. Also, 5 year warranties are a recent thing by Rolex.

Rolex's 5-year warranty policy is so new that all the 5-year warranties are still in effect. New watches have come with it for less than a year.

For decades, Rolex offered a one-year warranty. I'm not sure when that stopped, but it was at least well into the 1990s if not later.

Think the YouTube guy drank the bong water. Watch is hard to tell by that one pic but box/papers look pretty period correct and Mayors is an AD.

One of the pics shown sideways (9) looks like a slight damage to the case or maybe it's just too dirty? Just an observation.

Still looks like damage to the case (pin area) on the 10 side.

Buying a Rolex

Videos on Rolex are a dime a dozen. In many cases people in YouTube videos are trying to get 5 minutes of fame and truly having a clue of what you're talking about, this is exactly what happened in this particular one.

I figure Your watch is 100% real. But in the future forget about paperwork boxes and what people tell you take it in to an authorized dealer and have them pop the back of it, have a watchmaker verify exactly what you've got. It's not just about having an authentic watch but service on these things is very expensive and in some cases watches have never been serviced this damages Parts in them, making the service much more expensive in some cases even water damage could be present and you could wind up with a to a 2,000 to $3,000 bill from Rolex in some cases.

That's my suggestion to you educate yourself does many tools out there to do so enjoy the watch

Hey,

First of all thanks! Helpful comment.
I had an expert at the Rolex store observe it for authenticity at the time, but he only really took a very shallow look.

Will get it serviced this week for sure!
