Attention: Movie Fans

Word has is that Amy Schumer is slated to portray 'Barbie' in an upcoming film scheduled to be released in 2017. Talk about questionable casting. Wouldn't this be the equivalent of having Rosie O'Donnell play the lead role in Pretty Woman? Not going stand in line for this one or wait for the DVD.

I don't understand why movie fans should be upset, but I guess the internet is going to turn this into a Mad Max, Ghost Buster hysteria.

Come on guys, it will be awesome! It will be a non conventional barbie movie (which is about the most stupid toy invention ever, portraying that girls are ditzy and only interesting in shopping, makeup and getting married) so I fully expect Amy to slaughter that image and make a funny movie out of it.

I think she is funny and pretty. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I guess.

You know, fwiw, the OP has a fair point.

I've got nothing against Amy Schumer. I'm not a fan, but I'm not anti either.

That said, cast as Barbie? Now I've got no skin in this game. I'll never see this movie. No matter who is in it. But it's apparently more of the same PC that we've seen lately.

Maybe it's time to stop changing "history" and start creating new characters that are more in line with what our society wants today.

I'm sure it's meant to be a satire.

Thought her last movie 'Trainwreck' was very funny. Granted, I'm not particularly keen on politically outspoken entertainers, but that usually doesn't have much to do with whether or not I enjoy one of their movies.

This seems like Will Smith playing James West in Wild Wild West. Fine actor, bad fit for the role.

Just thinking. Going back to 'Pretty Woman' for a moment, now if Richard Gere had come back for Rosie O'Donnell (or Amy Schumer for that matter) instead of Julia Roberts, would movie-going audiences be genuinely moved or thinking 'WTF'?

Who gives a $hit? If you don't like her, don't see the movie. If you do like her and want to see the movie, see it.

Your responses, including this one, suggest you don't know the meaning of satire.

For a Barbie satire, Schumer is not only not miscast, but she is perhaps the ideal casting choice.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. Are you her agent or just another Hollywood pundit? Satire often works best when the protagonist is easier on the eyes (eg. Reese Witherspoon/Legally Blonde or Anna Faris/House Bunny). This one is a stretch of the imagination as Ms. Schumer would hardly qualify as a Barbie candidate from Day 1. Then again, there is oftentimes no accounting for countless casting calls and Hollywood studio decisions. On a more positive note, may she flourish in a role that defies both the imagination and a general perception of reality at large. Perhaps it's the idealized unreality of Barbie imagery that makes Ms. Schumer such a prime candidate for this upcoming role. She certainly fulfills that requirement from the other end of the spectrum. *L* In the meantime, off to the Raiders game.

No interest in a Barbie movie but speaking of casting I'm still annoyed at the casting for the Jack reacher movies.....

If it's satirical Barbie you're looking for, I vote for Rosie O'donnel.
