Reshaped lug chamfers?
Hi All,
I've been looking for a matte dial 16800 and I've seen a few examples that seem to be "polished", but where it appears to me that the lugs were ground to give an angle back to the chamfers. Am I correct about this? Here's an example from the sales forum: https://www.rolexforums.com/showthre...ighlight=16800 Does this generally hurt value versus what presumably would have been a polished / rounded lug? Is this a common practice? Thanks! |

It’s not always cut and dry like that,If the Watch was poorly polished over the Years and the reprofiling was done by a skilled Hand it can increase as well.Look at 7/10 of the Watches on HQmilton and Bob’s Watches,Recut cases....Would they be spending Time/Money to LOWER the value of their Watches?

Reshaped lug chamfers?
Thanks, so I guess the question may be better phrased as: between two otherwise equal watches, one with “normal” polishing over its lifetime (thick lugs but no chamfer) and one with re-cut chamfers, what would be the difference in value?

Looks to me like a lot of polishing was done on the top right lug.

Based on my experience, if the polishing has been light and not poorly done, it's best to just leave the watch alone. I have a 5512 that has been lightly polished and the bevels aren't as pronounced. I think leaving it alone is better than having the case cut personally.
