Dial Question 16610

Hello All,

I received a 16610 late "K" series timepiece as a gift, and have a question regarding the dial. The 6 o'clock has "T Swiss T" stamped.

Does anyone have any information on why this would be?

The T refers to Tritium. After 1998 watches switched to using Luminova. It's interesting that yours is from 2000-2001 but has a Tritium dial. Someone else will have to chime in on that one.

Yep, that is my concern.

The dial should not be tritium or have T Swiss T on it either. It could be a poser.

Dial is not original (has either been refinished, or is counterfeit).

The dial, bezel, insert look aftermarket. I was going back and forth on the case; the engraving doesn't look as crisp as I would expect. But perhaps it's just wear.

The bezel ring appears to be bent and the scallops aren't right.

dial is fake. You should open up the back case to see the movement.

Brought it to my local AD this morning. Having it sent to RSC for a service quote. Fingers crossed.

This seems kind of elaborate and unnecessary, no? Surely there has got to be a reasonably competent watchmaker in your city or town that, for a minuscule fee, can crack the back open for you to get a look at the movement? And they'll probably do it while you wait. Even if this watch is authentic, your RSC quote is going to be at least $1500 to service & replace all those aftermarket parts.

It may be, but I would like to know what has been replaced and what hasn’t. I don’t mind the fee if the watch will be put back to factory spec.

I'd agree with this approach. It's the only way to get it back to a condition to either sell or keep. New dial, bezel assy, insert, crystal and crown. And service the movement. Hopefully the bracelet is ok.

Bracelet was in mint condition. Not even a scratch to be found. Which leads me to believe it had been serviced before. But, I received it with no papers or service history so I don’t know the history of the watch. Is there a way to obtain the history from Rolex?

Well. It didnt come back from RSC looking like that. Most likely a local horologist did the work and sourced aftermarket parts. It is strange though. Why replace the bezel? Did the aftermarket insert not fit the original?

Dial could be explained by water damage.

Furthermore it would have been originally marked SWISS T<25

Received the service quote from Rolex today. Watch is indeed genuine. Dial, hands, bezel and crystal secure ring need to be replaced. Dial and bezel were not authentic. Will be having the watch fixed. Thank you for the help!

Getting It Right.

I think sending it to a RSC was a good move. They Will Make It Right and you won't be questioning the authenticity of the parts, or the quality of the Installation/Service.

Cheers!

Nice save!

I like to see the neglected watches brought back, and in fact, that’s generally how I’m able to be a part of the community here. About three years ago I got a 1680 in a sad state and now it’s looking like a six month old watch!

Good for you!
