Thoughts on vintage Girard Perregaux Gyromatic?
Found this little guy buried at the back of a case in a local antique shop today. Anyone familiar with these currently? I know the basic history of the Gyromatics, but G-P's have never been my area and I'm still new to older pieces such as this in general, so authenticity and the market still holds a learning curve for me.
Seller would only allow one pic, sorry. :( On the bright side, a few minutes of test seemed to have the movement working spot on. Good to see, though in no way remotely definitive. |

Legit and dial looks correct, but these are not expensive watches.

For as little as the shop wants for it, I figure I can't go wrong, even if I have to get my jeweler friend to give it a once-over and with a nice proper leather strap found. It'll add a nice-ish old G-P to the family for well under 500 USD.

You're right, but I'm also probably over-estimating my post purchase costs. The watch itself is well under 100 (closer to 50) U.S., which I should have clarified. I tend to think of 'worst-case-scenario' final prices I suppose.

Yeah, $50 sounds like a good deal.
I see alot of vintage watches for sale on this site for triple, what I would consider market value, so I hate commenting too much on price. |

No worries, vintage pieces are still new to me and like I say, this will be my first G-P, so I appreciate the input. :)

It's look nice but be careful, the case maybe small, around 33 34mm I think so.

You're quite right, it's slightly smaller than my 36, so I believe it is a 32 or 33. I don't mind this for a vintage however. After service and a light cleaning I plan to put it on a black leather strap with minimal taper.
