Turning Japanese

Well down the proverbial rabbit hole I went. A month after buying my 9F GMT.
I read even more about Grand Seiko. The manufacturing process. How limited production is ect... saw this. Couldn’t get it out of my head. A phone call to my friendly AD. Sale of my datejust to another party....

You know the rest. I’m not sure I have been this much in love with a watch since my LV-c sub. I hate to brag but this really feels and looks special

My wife questions my sanity for getting rid of the Rolex. I think with GS you either get it. Or you don’t.

Looks awesome! The 62GS case and dial are both spot on.

Each to his own, and Rolex makes a great watch. I think there was a part of me that wanted to try something different as I have owned a lot of Rolex models over the years.

Congrats!

I love my SBGE249 from last September, still can’t bring myself to flip my LVc for more GS.... but maybe someday I’ll get there. I “need” a high beat, after all. ;-)

I wasn’t sure what black polishing meant until I looked at that picture. The watch looks almost ceramic black. Pretty amazing.

I love my Datejust.

But I’ve seen comments on YouTube that say:

“When I got into watches I had a Rolex. Then I learned about watches and bought a Grand Seiko.”

Haha

Congrats! A little hard to see with the sun glare on the crystal, but I will check the GS site. You can replace the DJ if you want. Flipping is fun and although I have yet to get a GS, it will happen. Enjoy yours!

Haha

I think the latest incarnation of the DJ is a great watch, and one of the most under appreciated watches in the Rolex line up.
Maybe I should have kept it. But, I am giving myself a limit on how much I have tied up in watches these days.

And I wanted to try something different having gone through the entire corridor of swiss makes, except for VC.

Maybe it’s new brand infatuation. But I am completely in love with this watch. It’s probably the pretty face, the incredible dial.
But she has legs as well, the watch is pretty accurate out of the box for a mechanical.

I’m pretty happy with this acquisition.

Another random thought. GS bracelets have been criticized. And perhaps rightfully so. It would be nice to have a micro adjustment.

I’m neutral on this topic as there are some great bracelets out there that lack a Rolex style adjustment. VC. AP. PP come to mind.

I’m fortunate. A half link out and this watch fits perfectly. But I do wonder what the bracelet would be like with a Rolex style clasp.

The finishing is beautiful. First make I have seen that can create the same “bright” effect on brushed steel as Rolex.

Huge congrats!

I remember reading on this forum to never look at your Rolex using a loupe, as you will be disappointed

The time I walked into Grand Seiko the gentleman asked me which watch I wanted to see, I picked one, then he said “look at it with this loupe”

And I was blown away

The beauty is in the details, and he explained a bunch of movement stats that didn’t make sense to me at the time

I was wearing a ceramic two tone submariner, and he basically told me that for what I paid for the sub, I could have 3 Grand Seikos, each of them better than the sub

Congrats! Beautiful watch

I'll easily take a GS over most Rolex watches nowadays.
