First SKX Mod

Had some extra time on my hands so I figured I’d give modding a go. Really enjoyed the process of designing, sourcing, building, and now wearing the finished product.

LOL - you're a couple steps ahead of me, but i get what you're describing - i enjoyed it all myself but now am waiting for the components to find their way here from yobokies (where ever he's located).

congrats on a nice looking build - that bezel looks better than it did on half the websites i saw it on

Modding is a blast and very satisfying. That turned out nice. The hard part is fighting the urge to do more mods!

Nice. I like it. I have never felt the urge to modify but I do appreciate the finished product on many.

Agreed! Started thinking about what I'd like to build next as soon as I finished this one. Getting married in a few months and thinking it might be cool to build my groomsman watches as their groomsman gifts.

yobokies has an interesting homage Rado Captain Cook that i actually like more than the original, sad to say but true. Only issue, they must be using a mule train to ship the parts - i ordered them May 2 and they're still enroute

The virus caused a lot of issues. Shipments from outside the US have been affected the most.

Very good idea. My son, nephew, and a few co-workers have reaped the rewards of a handful of my mods. What they love most, each is one of a kind.

Have matching mods for the groomsmen would be something they would treasure. And congrats on the nuptials. Marriage is a great institution, I've been institutionalized for 34 years.

Yep, sometimes those Yobokies shipments take the long way 'round the barn. But ultimately worth the wait.

except i ordered a Seiko SUMO from a Hong Kong vendor, shipping was included in price and he was lower by almost $100 than the 2nd lowest seller. Watch was in NJ 2 days after placing order, and delivered 9 days after the order. Suspect it breezed thru customs, where it was waiting "customs clearance" because of the wuhan virus.

None of it makes sense

I get a lot of parts from Crystaltimes. I'm only a few cities away, so usually shipping is overnight to me. Being that they ship same day your order is received, it probably wouldn't take too long to get to you.

Sorry this is not a indictation that the virus is not affecting shipping times. This is called luck.

I order from outside the US every few weeks for the last 5 years and I can tell you the things are different the last few months with customs due to the virus.

I am glad this thread came up. A few years ago there was an outfit in the PI, that did custom-ordered and catalogue mods to Seiko Turtles. One that I was interested in was where they took a Turtle (don’t ask me the movement) with a day and date window, swapped out the dial so only the date was showing (the window for the day had been removed by another Seiko dial that had a date window only) and added a 24 hour GMT hand. I assume sacrificing the day function to power the extra hand. It kind of made sense. I never held one but they sure looked good and I thought it was an interesting and useful mod. I went looking for that company recently but they are gone. Does anyone know what I am talking about?

It was a company based in the PI, they sold on their website and ebay. I emailed a couple times and was getting ready to send them a turtle for the mod and they disappeared! This was over a year ago. On ebay, there are a couple turtle mods that have an added 24 hour hand but they are all quartz, not what I am interested in.

I’ll continue to search, and if I find anything post it. Meanwhile, if anyone else that has more experience with Seiko Mods has ideas on this I appreciate the input.

Customs, shipping facilities, mail and package facilities, FedEx, UPS are short handed due to the virus. Less staff equates to longer times

Possibly Loyswatch? Doesn't appear to be in business any longer.

I believe you are correct. Too bad they are no longer in business, they had pretty good reviews if I remember right.
