Hmmm....IMO most people who marry are 100% sure at the time.

Even now I can head off shopping with my wife 100% happily married and be hoping for a divorce after only a few stores.

We are heading out in about 20 minutes - I'll get back to you.

That is your problem! Your wife should always go shopping with her friends and NEVER with you. 19 years for me and Rudy and we only shop for cars together.....never for anything else. I go shopping with my female friends!!

My wife leaves the car shopping to me.

Horses for courses I guess.

She needs a new hairdryer today - that is also my department for some reason.

Only get married if you are 100% sure this is the woman ou want to spend the rest of your life with.

If you do decide to get married please realize that it is her wedding - not yours.

You are about as vital a part of the wedding day as the flowers on the reception table.

If one party doesn't feel like doing it then there is no point to it. Just tell her de-facto is the new marriage because TRF said so

I have also thought about the cost involved in a marriage at times, I can't see the point of spending large amount of $$$ just so others can be happy for you and celebrate YOUR wedding with you

Great replies all

Interesting with the different perspectives

If you are not willing to truly commit to the one person whose heart you hold in your hands, then get out.

One of the best decisions I have ever made was to marry my lovely wife Leah. What a wonderful soul she is and besides, I don't want anyone else to ever have her.

Puff....I'm behind my mentors Figbo & Directioneng is the divorce cycle, but I've gathered some words of wisdom on the subject of marriage........

Marriage is an adventure, like going to war.
It's a funny thing that when a man hasn't anything on earth to worry about, he goes off and gets married.
I don't worry about terrorism. I was married.
A man in love is incomplete until he's married. Then he's finished.
There's a way of transferring funds that is even faster than electronic banking. It's called marriage.
Marriage is the only war in which you sleep w/ the enemy.
The secret of a happy marriage remains a secret.
Marriage is a three ring circus: engagement ring, wedding ring & suffering.
Marriage is the chief cause of divorce.
Marriage means commitment.....of course so does insanity.

Puff, hope this helps.

You want my opinon mate?
What alot of people do not seem to say is that: No matter how much you love and want to be with somoene... Marriage is a big deal.
My beautiful wife and I were not really the one for marriage but it came to a point where we both wanted to make that commitment to each other.. for life. It is a sense of a life being completed and security that you are each other forever.
Certain men procrastinate about certain things. I guess you are one of them. ( as am I) and many others) There comes a point when a woman in that position will say to a man what on earth is going on here? Am i wasting my time with you?
Personal life is very different from working hard or playing the stockmarkets or football.. there we can make decisiosn in seconds... through experience!

I had a small but amazing wedding 40 people and everyone could not keep telling us how good it was.
Good luck and make sure you do it before your to old to get down one one knee and get back up again in the same minute.

P.S i have a full set of encylopedias for sale .. they are no longer needed as wife knows everything. PM if interested.

I couldn't agree with you more, it's a complete waste of money! you haven't said what her response was when you said you wanted to go with friends on a trip? some girls are cool with just getting it official in court; instead promise her a nicer ring....and as a present a watch to yourself! lol but seriously I know two people who have done this and gotten away with it but if she really wants the whole thing and is very traditional, you have no choice, put a cap on it and let her do it all.

I'm a photographer, so I've been to hundreds of weddings in the last few years that have cost anywhere between £2k-£120k. I can tell you that there is very little correlation between quality of the wedding day & its cost. It needn't be expensive to be awesome. Some of the most lavish & expensive weddings have resulted in the shortest marriages.

I would say wedding costs should not be the biggest consideration if you love her, she wants a big wedding and if you can afford it. it's just a days expense and if she wants a big wedding so be it. I had a huge one for 1700 people:) (not a typo) more because my folks know more people than me and it's one of the few times you get to share your joy with others though some guests might even be complete strangers to you but it doesn't matter.
Whats'more important is that things go well when married and sometimes we can't look too much into the future, so I would say if you are ready emotionally then take the plunge!
