Newbie Interested Day Date

A friend has this watch for sale. This is my iPhone photo. Before pursuing this further, I wonder if there are any cautions based upon the photo. At this point I have no idea the year of watch. Does it appear to be a model that would be worth pursuing?

Thanks for considering this rather vague and perhaps dumb question.

Intriguing. You have come to the right place. More photos from different angles to view date window and to view between both the 12 and 6 O'clock "lugs" and folks will weigh-in. A photo of the backside with the caseback removed would speak volumes, too. But, the pie-pan dial and the markers look legitimate to me, and the day is nicely centered ....all essential, but not sufficient. If it IS all legitimate then if you look online at other "head only" 1803's of similar vintage and details, it should fetch somewhere around $6,000-ish, I think.

and without any lume-dots, if it is real it is likely an early to mid 1960's example. My guess, anyhow.

good luck!

My friend is actually a jeweler/watchmaker. I am not concerned about authenticity but whether it is a desirable Rolex.
He has the case and there is a gold bracelet that appears in great condition with no stretch and is tight. The bracelet weighed a little less than 3 ounces.
He want $5000.

The Ref. 1803 is a classic, and a very desirable vintage dress watch.
...Are you saying that you’ve already determined that the watch is 100% authentic, 18K gold Rolex bracelet included, and the seller’s price is only $5000???

Is a day date 1803 a desirable watch? I would think so based on how many r being offered in the secondary market. It’s probably one if not THE epitome of Rolex watches. It hasn’t changed much in it 50 plus yr of existence. U can still buy the same watch at an AD. It’s arguably the best value of the vintage Rolex. Most likely it will not increase in value much in the future, but u will be able to recoup most if not all ur money if u decide to flip it.

As to the watch in question, better pictures would help. It looks to have been polished too much, but hopefully it’s just the angle of the pic.

I blame it on autoconnect.

5K in today's market for an authentic 1803 AND bracelet (bracelet in "whatever" condition) is a bargain. Yes, the configuration, YG with YG dial is a bit boring, but even the wholesale value is higher.
