Costco Rolexes - A Flipper's Paradise?
He sounds like a customer who will become well acquainted with Costco's loss prevention manager soon, if he hasn't already.
Loss prevention is a euphemism in that business, but you can get the gist of it. It's not polite to call "theft"...well, theft, lest someone get offended. |

After reading many responses on this site, it seems a large part of the allure of having a Rolex is pride of ownership. Sounds to me like this guy is cheating Costco and himself.

Douchey, but smart.
If more people start doing it, I'm sure they will kill the return policy for watches. Costco already has an expected number for returns/losses to still come out healthy every year. At least they get to recover lots of their money on a Rolex return. Think about the losses they take on people returning perishable items. Some people suck, it is what it is. |

I think Costco revised their electronics return policy years ago. At one point I do remember my friend returned like a 10 year old computer for his original purchase price. I think now you might be limited to 2 years on all electronics or something.

Needs some Vereat and bleach to get that stuff off of there. We are Costco people. We have used their return policy many times. Once we had food that was spoiled. Once we had patio furniture that just did not fit the space once we got it home. But never bought anything with the intention of returning it or borrowing it for free. Their return policy is the reason we buy many things there. If it is something (like patio furniture) that I buy that should last a lot longer for the money you spend, but it never does, I buy it at Costco. As they will take it back at any time for any reason. Even if it is a year later and the welds break on the chairs of a $2000 set. This guy will eventually realize, the game usually catches up with the player. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Wrong to do indeed as it's an unwarranted return. However, what is funny is that he was bragging to you about this and little did he know you would post it on the largest forum dedicated to Rolexes

A lightning bolt might damage the watch, which is the only thing on his carcass worth anything. Better that he develops a flaming, pus-laden carbuncle that makes people recoil in horror.

People who cheat the system cost us all. I shop at Costco and a change in their return policy will affect me somehow somewhere in future.
Like their TV and electronics return policy change that is now affecting everyone , including those who might have a legitimate reason to return, because of similar abuses in the past. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

My wife mentioned that Nordstrom's had a similar return/refund policy for years but they eventually had to curtail it due to excessive returns & refund requests on used women's clothing, shoes, accessories and jewelry (some of which wasn't even purchased at Nordstrom's). When their return/full refund policy was in full effect, a customer didn't even need a store receipt. The only requirement was that the item had to be stocked at Nordstrom's. This policy eventually opened a Pandora's box of fraudulent returns and refund requests. I vaguely recall reading in the business section of the newspaper that this kind of activity ran into millions of dollars over the years at Nordstrom's. It's a shame when abusers ruin a terrific customer service feature simply for the purpose of keeping up false or projected appearances.
