Speedmaster Apollo 11 50th Anniversary - Stainless Steel
The Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Speedmaster is now live on Omega's website along with a first impression review and some additional pics on Hodinkee. I really like the look of this Speedy, feel like they knocked this one out of the park .
Only thing I don't like is that it's an LE with nearly 7K being produced...will be interesting to see how quickly they all are spoken for. I'd also love to see the rest of their Speedy lineup get the updated movement as well. https://www.omegawatches.com/en-us/w...ersary/product https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/om...on-introducing

Bit of a miss for me.
9 o’clock sub dial is cheesy. Too many pieces made. $10k too expensive. |

A bit cheesy perhaps, but I actually quite like it.

Saw the news this morning, not really huge fan. I was really hoping the new 321 was going to find its way in the Apollo release.

I kind of like it. Not as obnoxious as I had feared. I like the bracelet too

I like it... A concern is if they put these updates on the regular moon watch next month for half the price.
I wonder what the value retention would be like for this model with soo many being produced. Seems like there is not such a milky ring on the sapphire which is good. |

No thank you. The only thing I like about it is the bracelet and the movement. If they add those features to the regular steel Speedmaster then I'll get excited.

I totally never saw the "11" on the dial until it was pointed out on another forum. Cool little detail. I really like this watch but that's a lot of $$$. Not sure I can spend close to $10K on an Omega

I don't get why, of all the amazing shots of Buzz Aldrin on the moon, they chose to use this particular "butt shot" image? It's not even the best picture of him leaving the module.
If I had to pick an image to use on the 9 sub I'd go with this one. Simple timeless breathtaking shot and you can actually see him wearing the moonwatch. This would have been perfect and would have looked so much better on the watch IMO |

I think they chose it because you can see the sole of his boot in that image which ties into the engraved footprint on the caseback. |

The biggest issue is the quote on the back....
"One small step for a man.....," Armstrong actually said... "One small step for man...." There's been debate for years that he meant to say A man.... But didn't! |

I’m on the list, but the incorrect quote is extremely bothersome. I watched the landing at seven years old, so the historical perspective is important. These will be 20k+ on secondary market.

I think with a regular 9 sub dial this would be a great looking watch. The color schemes work well, the sub dial is just stupid. I always wonder WHY watch companies do these things! I questioned Rolex when they came out with the meteorite GMT.

Did not raise my blood pressure, thank God, I thought it would be great and would have really wanted one.
I've had four Speedys in the past, I have a soft spot for them.

He admitted that he botched the line. I think it is proper to use the quote as Neil intended it. After-all, the way he said it doesn't make any sense. I'm sure that haunted him his entire life.

For those that were raised in the era, remember vividly the Apollo missions and the national pride connected to this momentous occasion, things like sub dials, movement, color schemes, etc. will not matter. It’s one of those things that can’t be explained if one didn’t experience it.

I’m not a fan of the sub-dial either. It’s not functional considering there are no indices. Strange. Even the silver snoopy has some indices. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Hard pass at that price. Too much gold to try and make it special. The snoopy and ck2998 blue were much more compelling at what was smaller prices at release.

Not for me as box is cooler than watch.
As far as reaching 20k on secondary market...I will wager a beer that within a year of release, they are under that number :) |
