What do you think about the Rolex Explorer I 14270 - Blackout dial
Wanted to know what you vintage guys thought about the blackout version of the explorer 14270. Watch has a significant premium over the regular 14270, but is also a lot rarer... thoughts?!
I'm thinking this is going up in value in the bear future. http://www.hodinkee.com/blog/just-be...lorer-blackout |

Very rare to me. Full sets go for around 10k, so a little more than double the price of the standard version. I don't think prices will increase significantly anytime soon though.

Nice watch, of course, but doesn't impress me as "better" than a regular Explorer. (Not sure I'd call it vintage.) Personal preference, but I certainly wouldn't pay that much more for it. Rarer doesn't always equal more valuable.

Watch is 25 years old, I think it falls into the vintage category...
I don't know if they'll go up in value but they seem to maintain pretty well. But yeah, values are all over the place. |

1016 is, to my mind, a vintage Explorer I. The newer ones just don't seem to have the same intrigue.

Blackout 14270 doesn't interest me, either. What does interest me is that the regular version can be had, broadly speaking, for about 1/3 of the lower-end price of its predecessor, the 1016.

Black out version of 14270 seem gimmicky. I've had 2 explorers, neither of that type. I see no extra value as a vintage to begin with in this series let alone in the future.
