Icon20 Newbie Advice Please: Date Adjust or Air King?

Hi Guys: new to the forum. I am looking to get my first used Rolex. Ideally, was looking for an automatic rolex with blue face and brown or black leather strap but it seems impossible to find it. I did see some Air King and Date Adjust but they seem to be from 1960's and 1970's? Not sure how reliable they'll be?
What would you recommend for a budget of 4K? The use is everyday office, boss look but not pretentious ;) I do like them thin not thicker big kinds hence why not the bigger models.

I'm sure you mean Datejust; that's what I would get.

It doesn't come with a leather strap, you'll have to buy one and change it yourself. If someone sells you a Datejust or Airking with a leather strap, it's not a complete watch, since the original bracelet is missing. Must be priced accordingly.

I'm sure you can find a very nice 70's or 80's Datejust in good condition for Us$3000.

Reliable? It will be the most reliable thing you have ever owned.

My first was a Datejust. Keep the metal bracelet.

Go check out an Airking in person; I didn't like the way some numbers were silver and some per white painted which really put me off.

You can get a very decent and newer stainless datejust in your budget. I'd also keep the bracelet. It will be reliable. IF you want to step up to a sport model, they are telling you right that you can get an explorer or explorer 2 for that price.

I agree with above, I think the reason you're seeing old watches on leather is because the original bracelet is missing. If you want a Rolex on leather, there isn't too much from the factory without going gold/cellini.

best bet is to buy the newest DateJust or Oyster Perpetual your money will buy and leave at least $100 budget for a high quality leather strap.
