If you didn't think the UK market was totally nuts...

... then check this out, the new WG YM2, one of the least popular models even before the Merc hands, is selling for nearly £52K, retail is £34K, by our trusted seller version of Davidsw, Chronext.

Come on now Sam. Keep it clean. I meant shortage of SS models and now premiums on PM's too.

Another Rolex I would never consider.
52000£ worth of useless complication and bling bling oversized PM case.

Foreigner's paradise at the moment for sure, Mike. At least the watches I bought before Brexit have all appreciated considerably since so I'm doing OK, but new watches are a pain to buy now, esp the Basel ones.

So what I should do is sell my watches in the UK and hop a flight to Canada to restock?

Canada is a great place to buy but there's 13% tax in Ontario to factor in. Still a great place to buy.

It appears I could easily take a free vacation to the U.K. By picking up some desirable watches and catching a flight.

Your main problem is that you could fly over here just to find that there are no watches available.

British ADs are now selling to US and EU Grey dealers above RMSP and this means no decent stuff is in the UK. Also because the British ADs are paying Rolex in Pounds, they would rather sell to the US and the EU resulting in an acute shortage of watches in our shops.

Rolex moan about Grey Dealers but the truth is that they turn a blind eye to it allowing themselves to maximise profits as currencies fluctuate.

Last year I could buy dirt cheap in Spain whereas today it is the other way round.

Still I could sell you my watches and make a nice juicy profit. Such are the vagaries of currency ups and downs.

Regards

Mick

I saw it the other way around: he would fly to the Uk to sell the desirable watches he bought in Canada.

I really hope not many, all the new Basels are at around 50% premiums at the moment and there will be some rich trendies who just have to have the watch instantly but hopefully sanity returns after 6 months.

Can't wait to see the price on the SD43 upon release, amongst the Grey dealers.

It's true that for Americans, Canada is a better buy because of the currency exchange. As for taxes, BC has only 12% tax and Alberta is much lower at 5 or7%.

Chrononext is hardly a yardstick for UK prices. Chancing their arm, if someone bites it is fair play to them, anyone with a little knowledge won't buy, anyone who can Google won't buy.

Rich kid bait.

It won't be for long for this WG as any AD can get one quickly but for all the waiting list Basels Chronext will set the price now they have replaced Iconic as the top resellers, and other dealers will look to them when setting price, which will be very high on all Basels, esp the SS ones, for many more months. Even the unpopular AK is still selling above retail at WF one year on, before Brexit this would have been at a 15% discount now.
