Panerai - Staying true to its history with the 673

I love the history of Panerai - is there any other manufacturer that produces such a close and authentic version of the original watches that the modern equivilants are based on?

The only reason I own this watch is due to falling in love with the picture behind it of the original beaten and battered 1950's piece that I'd seen and drooled over countless times previously.

I was very close to purchasing a Pam372 as at the time that was the closest thing I could find to the picture I'd fallen hopelessly in love with!

Then to my utter joy in 2016 Panerai released a limited edition (ref 673) tribute to the very watch I'd dreamed of for so long. I actually remember feeling a little sick when I saw it for the first time I was so excited.

Anyway, needles to say I didn't need much persuading when I eventually managed to find an AD that had one available.

This ones definitely a keeper for me - I still get a little buzz every time I put her on the wrist for the day.

Thanks for allowing me to share my love for this watch - hope you don't mind me gushing on like a love struck schoolboy but...well I'm sure you guys are equally as passionate about some of your pieces.

Thanks

Omega.

The Speedmaster Professional with a hesalite crystal that you can buy right now in any Boutique is a very close version of the Reference 105.012 that has been around since 1963.

And the recent 60th Anniversary Speedmaster limited edition is designed to be almost identical to the Reference CK2915 originally released in 1957.

Both Panerai and Omega also both make other watches that are worlds aware from their historic watches.

Congrats! I love the 673. I love the 372 as well, but the 673 is just more special...but then, I don't need to explain that to you!

Congrats again on a spectacular pick-up. Feel free to gush!

Hi

Yes you are 100% correct about the Speedy and the fact both Omega & Panerai also make other models that bare little or no resembalance to their humble roots.

I suppose while were at it we ought to include Rolex and the Submariner into the mix as thats also pretty close to the 1950's original (Ignoring the Ceramic bezel & glidelock clasp of course...)

Very true, and Day-Date and Datejust too (perhaps not 41mm versions)

I think I should have put a little more thought into my original post - I guess most brands have model refs that play on the companies heratige... Breitling, Tag, Zenith etc..

Note to self - think obout what your writing for more than 2 seconds before hitting 'Submit' next time..

Lol - thanks, its the only Panerai I own but I also love the 372 and there are others I would like to add at some point in the future.

But then again there are also some other Rolex's some other Omega's.... you guys know that feeling I'm sure.

Unfortunarely the 'want' list is currently bigger than the 'can afford//justify to the wife' list....but hey! thats also a familiar feeling amongst you guys I'm sure...

Yes, I believe it will turn into a future classic in 5-10 years...unless they start making countless re-iteration of it (hoping not)!
