1st Rolex - How to find info on them?

Hi,

I'm Darren, I live in the UK.

I have been after a Rolex for a while and the other half surprised me with one this morning, purchased from a known Pawn Broker shop in London.

Photo is of my watch, but from the site it was purchased from.

It came boxed and with its card and warranty.

I just wanted to know if I can find out what year it was made, and what the strap is. It says steel and gold on the website, but the winder has a crown and 2 dots on it, so I am not sure what that means. Also, as it is gold, would there be hallmarks on it?

The model is 116233

Thanks for any help

The date on the card is as close as you can get and really the only thing that matters!!! If it isn't a random serial number then there are charts that approximate the date of manufacture.

Hello Dazza,

Hi Dazza, to the point the seller should have disclosed to you what it is you have purchased, inc a receipt and insurance quote for your insurers, if not get back in touch and request one. Rgds "H" England.

Here's a tutorial on crowns: https://www.chrono-shop.net/en/content/17-crowns

Bottom line is the 2 dots mean a twin lock crown.

Correct me if I'm wrong but two tone watches typically don't have hallmarks? I could be wrong but I never noticed them on my watches.

Thats 100% correct but its quite simple why in many countries like the UK for one to call anything gold or platinum it must be all gold or all platinum etc 9ct 18ct gold 900 or 950 for platinum. And it must have a assay stamp to state gold content etc 375, 515, 750,or 950.So Rolex uses the made up word Rolesor for watches of mixed metals gold S.Steel, and Rolesium for mixed metals S.steel and platinum another made up word.

And for the original poster all internet charts only give a approx date when the case or clasp was stamped between X&Y years now this dont mean when the watch was made.
All single letter serials with 6 numbers.
