Loved the 5170 g black dial but soooooo difficult to read the time.
Purchased the white and completely happy with my decision both one and for the long term. Try them all on and see what you like best Good luck 👍 |

Thoughts on Black 5170g?
I have been really liking the black 5170g.
Curious how you guys think it looks in my collection (photoshopped in below). Seems a better fit to me than the white pulsations or 5170r's. Colelction-with-5170g.jpg |

Depends on the fashion being worn. Thus there is no single choice.

I should have referenced my other thread I started... https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=548514 I dress more casual usually, so I was looking for a Patek "dressier" sports watch than can dress down as well as up. Also not looking for any Nautilus or Aquanaut models (for this one). The ones I am considering the most are the 5170g (white and black), 5170r (black) and 5270g (blue chinless) and 5270r. Because price is a factor, the 5170 is the one I am loving for my wrist and my wallet. My love of the look of the 5370p has me loving the much more affordable 5170g (but I would LOVE a 5370p!!!...someday) Plus it seems WG is less dressy then rose but I do love the rose/black dial version too. |

I'd wait on the 5270r or g. I think that's a great watch to look forward to, keep you hungry as it were, while you enjoy this great watch roll. Pleasure delayed is pleasure doubled, I keep reading around here. |

Plus I think it is sportier than 5170r anyway which seems dressier IMO (though equally gorgeous) This should conclude my run for now... I will have my "sporty" dress watch to complete that missing "hole" in my collection for a dress watch. Plus I just love it!!! |

Wow, you have a wonderful collection, including the future icon and most beautiful sleek sports watch: 5711 White dial. Congrats!
To your poll, my preferences in the 5170 line are: P > G white dial > R black dial > G black dial > R white dial This of course is just a personal preference and you can't go wrong with any 5170. |

Currently I would agree for 5170's that the P is #1, though unobtainable right now. In my opinion.. P > G black > G white > R black > R white Plus I do have a white 5711, so want to change things up a little. If money were not a restriction, I think I would do the 5370p out of all the Patek's under $300K. Just the ultimate sports dress watch. What could compare? 5370p would be an endgame watch for me at this point in time. I mention that because the 5170g with black dial has the same color scheme which I love, though obviously not on the same level of metal, split second movement and functionality and workmanship. (And the look is different with pulsations and layout, etc.) But even though the 5170g is $180K less, it is no slouch... |

Keep in mind, I've heard prior owners say that the 5170g (black dial) is difficult to read the time, FWIW. The lume hands on the 5370p makes this a non-issue, maybe not worth $180k though!! Keep in mind, I've heard similar complaints (i.e.legibility) about the 5130p (which I own). There are times when it is hard to see the hands, but that's why I have my iPhone...

3 degrees and a chronic reader and learner of new subjects... The 5170 g black seems to fit very nicely in my current collection and budget. Most likely I will get a 5270 down the road. I am very slightly more liking the chinless blue 5270g than current r white. But it is super close. Need to see them both in person. I think that is as far in Grand complication territory I will tread... but who knows. |

You mean this one?? Both are incredible, but also offer a very different feel. The blue is discontinued, FYI. It's a huge win either way, whenever the time comes.

Stephen I was waiting for that shot as blue hadn't been mentioned. If not 5170G or 5905P that's the one

That's the one!! You are not making this easy
Absolutely Bluetiful Yes I know it is discontinued, and selling around $20K more on average on Chrono24 than the current R. Not that many available so I am guessing the value of the chinless blue will probably keep going up. But who knows.. Just that damn 2nd gen chin... arg, you can get those Jay Leno blue ones for $25K less. But I just can't live with that... |
