I've redone my 1500!

I picked this up from Rolex NYC Service today:

I've had this watch since the mid '90s, but it used to have a silver face and not-original engine turned bezel.

I loved that look, and although I used to wear it a lot, it's also spent lots of time in the drawer/safe, maybe because I'm bored with it, and the silver dial and bezel wear kind of small. Really, there was nothing wrong with it at all (except that it didn't run). Went to Rolex to do a major overhaul, and decided to restore the original bezel and also (what the hell?) change to a black dial. It's not a valuable piece, so I figured it didn't matter if it had a service dial anyway.

Surprise of surprises, they gave me what I think is a very lovely matte black dial. Looks even better than I expected.

I wanted a classic, small, non-flashy, semi-dressy, vintage looking Rolex to wear when the occasion required it. Now I've got that.

For all those who may think it looked better the old way, I may agree. Of course, I was so tired of the watch I never wore it, whereas now I'm kind of excited about it. So, mission accomplished.

very cool, same dilemma I have with my 1500, but i'm going to keep my original dial on it, as it's only an original swiss only once, and I don't need perfection.

Cool, @andromeda160. If you'd asked me a year ago whether I'd exchange dials, I'd have said "over my dead body." But then somehow, I caved.

My dial should be swapped, but i've grown to enjoy the patina.

your silver dial was beautiful, I can see the need in change of pace though, I sold my two tone air king because the dial just didn't do anything for me, the black dial on my 6426 never get's old though, pairs well with just about anything as well.
cant' get a pic of my 1500 to pull up

I've redone my 1500!

It's taken a couple days but I think I'm used to 34mm again. When I first put it on it looked like I had a nickel on my wrist. Talk about contrast!

I sold the DSSD because it decided it was too big. These photos show the insane contrast!
