The solid gold DJ once caught my eye too but if I were to choose it would be the DD.

I'm glad someone saved me the trouble of spelling it out. For historical reasons alone I'd love to have a gold Datejust. It would be great in the collection alongside a Daydate. Why is everyone so either or instead of both.

President bracelet is so much more appealing to me in gold. So I would go with the 118238

It's ALWAYS been about the Day-Date for me when it comes to Rolex. Absolutely nothing wrong with any/all the other models.

To me a solid gold watch - period - has been and is a Day-Date. I know there's hundreds of fine options out there but that's just me.

There's my answer. Buy and enjoy!

I don't have a solid gold DJ, mine's the TT version. When I bought it new in1989, it was because I couldn't swing a gold DD. Between the two, as lovely as the DJ watches are, it would be a gold or rose gold DD with a silver stick dial.

To me the DJ is always going to play the 2nd violin to the DD, I feel it is like the V6 mustang - nice, but you really want the V8. That being said since we're talking solid gold, how about the gold OP date on a rivet oyster. I feel that really stands out in it's own right

If I were going to get a solid gold Rolex, it would be the day date. I'm a big fan of the Datejust, but still, if I were going all gold I'd get the day date.

There is no reason why both cannot exist in the same collection. President and Jubilee bracelets are very different in terms of appearance and feel. I have thought about adding a 116238 to pair it to my 118238 for a while now. Who knows, maybe I will in the future.

I have to agree. I saw someone wearing a gold datejust last month on the beach during my vacation. It looked really good.

I would go with a day-date if possible but the DJ (jubilee with the hidden clasp) looks great as well.

Been thinking about the Datejust 116238 again and the more I do, the more I seem to like it.

Thanks Lee, for your above-mentioned comments and feelings about the 116238. I feel the same way and it appears that you, I and a handful of others are in the minority on this topic.

Since being back on the Forum after a hiatus, my interest has been directed on two watches, the YG Daytona and the YG Datejust. Both are amazing and stunning references in their own right, but since this is a thread about the Datejust, I will keep my comments on the Datejust.

If I were ever to pull the trigger on one of these, it would be one with the black roman jubilee dial. A perfect pairing with my white roman dial Day-Date.

Datejust picture from the internet. Day-Date picture is my own.

I think would prefer a gold jubilee versus a gold president bracelet, but they seem to be rare, specially on white gold, which is my preference. Beleive the referene for the 18k YG jubilee is 6311/8 and for the WG jubilee is 6311/9

I prefer the Day Date based on the looks and the band. The all gold Date Just is nice but in the long run I would only pick it up as a not as costly alternative to the Day Date.

Beautiful watch, but the DD is such an icon, and the president bracelet, unique only to the DD means I would go DD everytime. Buy what YOU like however, I would love to have a solid gold DJ as well.

If I were going to get a gold Rolex (no plans currently), I'd get the DD. What's stopped me is that they are priced at PP level, and for me at least, there's no contest.

Solid 18k gold datejust vs daydate

What about a WG Datejust on leather band (116139)? So this one on the forums and looked really sweet:

but wonder if a WG bracelet (Oyster or President style) can be added at a later time (perhaps same case as PM Daytona on leather, which cannot use a regular PM metal bracelet)

The 116238 (black dial, diamond markers) is probably the next dress watch I'll pick up. Appearance-wise, I've always preferred the DJ - I don't care for how the crown is scrunched down below the day on the DD.
