Can these watches compare? Whats your thoughts on the DJ 36mm in solid gold. They are the same price I would think the DJ will be much less common.

Any pros or cons to it over the daydate?

I think the gold DJ is nearly perfect. Understated and classic, it's never too much.

I would choose the DD also, though the DJ is gorgeous too. I think the president bracelet is nicer and better than the jubilee. The cleaner dial of the DJ should pull me by its side, but i happen to like the date function and how it sits between the 2 hour markers, makes me think of old score boards and country clubs.

I don't care for the DD - either the way that the day window pushes the crown down toward the middle of the dial or the fact that I can't read the day without my reading glasses at this point.

The DJ has a beautiful, balanced dial and looks fantastic in yellow gold. That piece (116238 with diamond markers) is on my to-be-purchased list.

The solid gold Datejust is beautiful but I prefer the DD. President bracelet is just amazing and iconic.

The DJ isn't any less iconic than the DD, on the contrary, and it was launched years before the DD.

Agreed.

I always thought the DD was kind of an old man's watch but then I tried on a gold DD with the champagne dial and it is stunningly beautiful. Especially on the wrist.

Yes, but the Rolex is all gold with bracelet. To get that from haute horology is two times the cost. For an all gold watch, you cannot beat the quality and price point of Rolex.

Day/Date18kyellow is the only way to go.
Of course if the Submariner in 18K Yellow was available with day/date there would be
problem of having have another watch too.

I would choose the day date no questions asked. The DD will also holds its value much better than the DJ.

I love the 116238, you don't see many around at all.
