Overall, I like it. But I must say I really warmed to the WG 3,6,9 on the previous one. Made it look rich and slightly funky.

But an Explorer lumed all around obviously makes sense. The short hands didn't bother me much, but these are better. Can't wait to see it in the metal.

So does this prove that a Rolex designer lurks around here at TRF?

I would imagine they will be available at some point. Technically speaking, people could source the new dial and hands and update the old 214270 to the new iteration; imagine Rolex would not "approve" that !

Why does the introduction of a new model mean they "admit they got it wrong"?

That implies any new model introduction means Rolex got it wrong the first time. Like the Daytona, I guess. Don't follow the logic.

New vs Old. Looks like the dial is slightly larger on the new one.

They made it perfect.
I held off on the Exp because of the hands and no lume at 3,6,9. Now I'm a buyer.

Think it looks great. Have the short hands version, and like it too. Not a big enough change to upgrade for me. But if I didn't own and had a choice, would probably go with the newest version.

Not kidding, as a former owner and a person who appreciates the 214270 this new model may be more exciting than the SS Daytona.

As part of the 2010-2015 gen 214270 owners' club I can honestly say I prefer the solid WG 3 6 9. My faith on that will not waiver.

However upon seeing the enlarged mercedes hour hand the one on mine does look a tad small. BUT the new ones also seem obnoxiously large. What to do?

Come on, the hands were not right on the old one, you don't have to be a watch designer to tell Rolex had a meltdown when they upsized the case and dial and kept the old hands. But all is forgiven with this introduction

I love that they actually say on their website "we made the hands longer".

Then again ever since Donald Trump, small hands are a bit of a nono anyway ;)

I have the 214270. I really like the WG 369 of the current Explorer; the numerals actually make the watch look more unique and classy.

Having said that, the hands do appear better in the new version...though I've never been bothered by the shorter hands on the 214270. Looking forward to seeing the new one in the flesh!

Agree with all the above, I'm assuming that the dial is still matte?

I don't like the lumed numerals 3-6-9. I think the owners of older 214270 should be able to swap the hour hands with this new models at RSC as its the same model number. That would be the PERFECT watch IMO!!
