Hi, I'm totally new when it comes to Rolex.

I'm 22 this year and I'm looking to get my first ever Rolex.

I'm currently torn between a ceramic black submariner or just a classic yachtmaster with a black dial.

Issues is I'm clueless, as to what serial numbers.. whether it comes with Rolex's papers is a big or small thing

Please help a newbie out

Welcome to the forums! The only black dial yacht master that I know of is the rose gold one that comes on a rubber strap. If you are talking about a different watch post a picture.

Out of the Yacht-Master's (stainless steel w/ platinum bezel) that I know of (Platinum, Blue, Rhodium dial) I would go with the Submariner. It's a great first watch and it literally goes with everything (from a tux to a bathing suit.) Also I do know that the bezel on the YM has been known to scratch up and fade a bit (if you're not somewhat careful with it.)

It really comes down to what watch YOU like the best, they're all great and you can't make a wrong choice (except not getting what you have your heart set on first.) Good luck and don't forget to post pictures when you make your decision

i'm not good with model numbers.

all i know is the local pawn shop is reselling a 2010 ceramic submariner black for around 7.5k SGD. it comes without papers from rolex though, just the watch itself.

my main concern is after reading up online, it was mentioned the exterior of the watch can be authentic, whereas the insides of the watch could have some
'fake' parts.

to add on, i did read up online about how everything on the watch exterior can be real whereas the insides of the watch might have some 'fake' parts. this is what i'm really worried about.

That problem is solved by removing the caseback.

If it is a Submariner Date then it has the 3135 movement and it looks like this

There are a lot more shops to buy a Rolex in Singapore than a pawn shop. Most pawn shops seem to be selling the "worse" of the models, which may not be a good buy, considering that it is your first watch.

Maybe have a look at the numerous non-authorised dealers that sell Rolexes and get a feel of what you like and the prices and then make an informed choice. I'm sure a lot of the Singapore TRF members can recommend other options.

Good luck and buy well. You want to be proud of your new watch, not having buyer's remorse or second thoughts on whether you got a "real" rolex.

Save the hassle and future problems, save some more money and go to an AD, or buy from the classified ads on this forum. Good luck, you will always remember your first Rolex fondly.

Good luck in your journey. Luckily, you live in a country where getting a Sub is not too difficult! The fun is searching for the "right" one at a great price.

I'm sure you will find another one at that price if you go on the right Singapore watch forums.

A cheap Rolex may cost you more money in the end eg maybe need a service. Most people will place a value on full box and papers. It will be easier to sell too if you ever change your mind or decide to flip.

Welcome. Leave the Pawn Shop alone and find an AD with a proper pre-owned section and go see the watches. Buy complete, box, papers, warranty card. I would also buy as new as possible to avoid any post purchase issue with a needed service or warranty work. I would look at the Submariner Ceramic No Date, 114060. A classic watch and it holds its value as well as any.

In my opinion, buying a Rolex in a pawn shop is the worst possible option especially for someone new to nice watches.

Please go to an authorized dealer and save yourself a lot of grief.

Go for the black Sub, there is no black YM in steel. As the guys say avoid Pawn shops, find a reputable used dealer or an AD if you can save longer. Before buying you can put pics here of the watch and paperwork and we will tell you if it all looks good.

As I always say, if you can't tell the difference between a fake, a really good fake, and an authentic Rolex, you have absultely NO business buying anywhere else but an authorized Rolex dealer.

You are just getting yourself setup to be scammed, just a save a thousand or so dollars, is it worth it?
