prob Z since its 10 years old, some have been "lost" also, Random serials will cover many production years, Z is just one.

How many production years occurred for the 14060m random serials?

Only 2-3, I believe. Not sure what poster #2 is talking about.

They are both modern day subs with huge production numbers. How either could ever be called rare is beyond me.

I assume people think this because population expands exponentially except in times of war or famine. and watch production doesn't increase at the same rate. I dunno.

Yeah, neither is even remotely rare. If you're deciding between the two, the serial number is basically irrelevant. There are technically fewer z-serials just because it's only a single production year, but that's not something that factors into value or collectibility in any way.

(Given the choice, I'd personally go with the random serial if all else is equal, since it's the same watch but newer.)

Neither is rare, but given the choice you should go for the random serials as those are fitted with the parachrom bleu hairspring.

Random is more rare. The very last batch. If you can find NOS that would be even better! More collectible.
