Recap story about getting my Daytona for a full movement service/overhaul.....

Got to love the sharp crisp lugs..... Now this is something you don't see everyday.... & sadly Rolex don't make them anymore.....

On April 26,2017

My wife & I went to LA WatchWork today to have them service my beloved Daytona 16528....

The shop was GREAT.....!!!

We met Edvi, Beau, and Jan..... They are wonderful peoples .... We feel very welcome to their shop....They are professional, polite, & very knowledgeable...

Their remodeling of the shop is very nice and clean....

I be getting my watch back within 6 to 8 weeks....

When they start servicing on my watch they will sent me some pictures of the internal of the movement and I will post it here.....

So, stay tune........
Today I got an email from Edvi @ LA WatchWorks saying they nearing completion! & will keep me posted once the Zenith movement passes their QC.....

A special thanks to Ken aka HL65 the one and only Highlander for recommending LA WatchWorks....

It was my very first Rolex & I been wearing it for 24 years.... Mostly weekend and it has been wore to all kind of special occasions such as my HS prom, HS graduation, college graduation, wedding, birthday, new year, & etc......

Just like what Rolex advertising..... "It's just doesn't tell the time. It tells history"....

LA WatchWorks staffs truly know how much this Daytona means to me.... They giving a 5 STARS service & attention that it deserve on my Daytona....

You don't get this kind of treatment from a Rolex Service Center.....

Here some pictures of my watch movements that been taking apart for service/overhaul by LA WatchWorks....

There are more parts but it don't fit in the group pictures...^^^........

I will keep you guys posted when I get my watch back & post some pictures....

Stay tune.....

Best Regards,
Tony

That's a beautiful watch you have Tony. When you get it back the excitement will be just like opening the box when it was new.

Insane pics! I actually gasped when I scrolled into the pieces parts pics.

One thing I noticed missing. The Magic. Does it float away like the Magic Smoke of electronic components?

Good. Because I thought there was a screw missing.

You had a Rolex Daytona in high school? Holy smokes!

very nice piece: it's comforting to know it is in the hands of a former rolex employee, Dalton. was there yesterday to drop off a few pieces and had a great time chatting and catching up with the guys.

Those lugs are very sharp. Much moreso than my 16518.

Very cool. It is pretty scary seeing the guts scattered everywhere.

I've been told that indie watchmakers can't get the necessary perts from Rolex to work on 4130 movements.

Can anyone confirm / deny? It was a local that has a good reputation so I'm inclined to believe them.

This is a Zenith El Primero movement not a Rolex 4130 FYI,

Thanks - that was the discussion we had. My first Daytona is the first of the in house movements with the skinny hands - and not 5 digits like the OPs.

He told me that he could still service a Zenith movement but when they changed to the Parachrom in house movement they cut him off.

Bummer.

Not to nitpick but my prepurchase research indicated the 4030 is quite different than a normal el primero. Rolex analyzed the movement for potential weakness and changed many parts.

1) microstella and breguet (sp) overcoil. This is super important to me as levers can be knocked out of regulation easier in my experience. This also helped the 4030 achieve same or better accuracy the the 400 with reduced hz.

2) better reversing wheel

3) eliminated the date wheel. In the few service writeups available of the 400 the date spring often broke and was replaced by a different version.

4) lower frequency allows longer service interval

5) of the remaining parts that arent changed to different solutions (e.g escapement) many are either modified for better finish or peformance for example with tighter tolerance polished finishing or decoration.

With all of this in mind you get a very well finished movement with high performance (i see 2-5 spd fast depending on use) without the rotor issues of the 3xxx but also without hacking. Imho the new rolex 4130 trades off some of pure movement with some better performance (ie elastic parts used but in a vertical clutch so smoother operating chrono start). You also get 72 hours with the 4130 vs ~55hrs with 4030 Both are great movements, the 4030 is a heavily modified movement (iirc >100 parts are different or modified by rolex technicians) with rolex philosophy based on another movement.

How often do you have this watch serviced? Saw you've had it for 24 years.
