Patek 5930 Real World Experiences?
I am wondering how many have had a chance to see or even own the Patek 5930 world timer? A world timer is a watch I yet to own and because of my travel and many calls with associates around the world would be a complication I might use. However my major concern is the readability of the dial.. My eyes are not young and wonder how it compares to other world timers or equivalent pieces. Would love to hear from those who have experienced in real life. Thanks in advance.

Karl has one. I've never seen one in real life but in pictures the chrono looks small and impossible to read.

The legibility of the cities is fine compared to 5130. I think it's because it's white lettering against blue background. The chrono definately requires some concentration to read off the sundial. It's not a glance...you have to read it....it as I find a chrono pretty useless it's mainly cosmetic. The watch wears small. I have loads of pictures on my Instagram. Cheers

I have tried on the 5930 a couple of different times since its release. IMO dial visibility is pretty good, especially with the luminescent hands and hour markers. The combination of the WT and automatic chrono complications make the case a bit on the thick side, at just under 13mm.
I do not own this watch myself, but it is a very nice watch! |

To me I prefer the Master Geographic by JLC. I think the dial on this PP is too busy with all the cities visible at all times

I owned a geophysic. It's not a Worldtime it's a GMT. The hands were impossible to read.

Karl and Jon.. thanks for the photos and comments. I appreciate it. There are a couple of Patek dealers not too far from me and I will try to see if any in stock to at least get a look.
Young... I not a big fan of that JLC. I agree with Russ and Karl. If anything, FC makes a pretty decent world timer and while not nearly as nice as the Patek--- a lot cheaper.. |

Guys ! Thanks for all the feedback. I think the only reason i would sell if if i can find a 5930 is that I already own the 5164 and prefer that one when i travel because of its size and I need another watch like a hole in my head.. Well maybe i do need that too.
Seriously would like to see one in person first before even thinking of putting up that kind of money |

Buy if you like it, not because you think it'll be useful. I'll bet money all your calls are with a laptop, iPad, or smartphone nearby. All are faster, more convenient, etc at telling world times than a 5930, Master Geographic, etc. It's a novelty, nothing more IMO.

100%. I personally like watch complications because they're complicated to engineer and produce and create interesting dial aesthetics - not because of the utility they offer me. Aside from werewolves, I'm not even sure who needs to know what phase the moon is in. |

Well other than the PR indicator can say that about almost any function on a watch including time. I sometimes think i need to talk to someone in another country and may not be in front of the computer to calculate approx time. Europe is easy but Asia and Australia start to get complicated.. LOL

Not an engineer but a scientist and I feel similarly to you. I do not wear my plan time or time with date only watches as often

@watchucallit
5930 just like other PP worldtime is not a good tool in summer for your travel or con calls with partners around the world. It does not handle DST so it is going to cause some confusion for sure. e.g. in HK trying to figure out US west coast time or the opposite. and the chrono function, featuring a small dial with only 30 mins often comes short for many activities I timed. You gotta remember how many rounds it has run. despite these two imperfection, i love it. these are nothing compared to its beauty. TS said in an interview this 5930 targets younger crowd starting... 20.🤔 emm anyways, 5930 is part of PP's effort to develop interest among younger generations, legibility is not the most concerned but the combination of world time and chrono for the first time for a production model, underneath a versartile and vivid hand-guilloched dial that shows from dimmed blue to an amazingly bright blue in different lights. superb photos from previous posts by various gentlemens. |

@Tony...actually no WT actually does cater for DSL. In the case of the JLC it merely has a star telling you to look at the next city e.g. London becomes Paris, Paris becomes Athens etc. I think VC has the most comprehensive with 37 odd time zones and that doesnt either. You also still need to know when it kicks in to be able to look at that time. I have become quite used to looking at Paris when I know DSL has been switched etc. The more stuff you have on teh dial the more cluttered it becomes. As for thechrono...dont think I have used it...but as a 30 min is this any different to the 5170? Cheers

Karl Scrappy Tony Hairdude
I appreciate the comments. The DST issue is a good point but again if buying only for the reason of world time-- would use my iPhone.. :). Anyway the PP5930 seems hard to locate right now. |

I have to say that in person this watch is stunning. I don't think the pictures do it justice.
