Rolex parts after 20 years

I read that roles would only service parts up to 20 years
I have a 1990 day date what happens when I hit 20 years in 2020

Rolex will service watches a lot older! 50, 60, 70 years, no problem.

Plenty of very good indyCW21 watchmakers. Do a forum search. Most often, they will do a better job than the RSC as there is more attention to detail when one person works on your timepiece.

Not really..

What they mean is that they keep parts in stock/manufacture for 20 years after discontinuation, then, until they run out. Probably the only parts they have actually discontinued on a 1990 DD is some dial types.

^Exactly what I was thinking, your watch would be 30 years old in 2020.

But knowing Rolex, they probably produced an unfathomable amount of movement parts. Even 15×× parts are readily available these days.

I don't think anyone with a 31×× movement will have any problem with parts in the next 50 years.

I have a 1950 Rolex Oyster Perpetual that I tried having serviced at 2 different Rolex Dealers. Both said that parts were not available anymore and gave me my watch back.

Stupid question...

If Rolex services a 1960s watch, do you get like a hybrid of new parts and old parts? Meaning like a brand new 3135 (where maybe some other movement used to be) inside and old case with brand new hands on an old dial?

Or does Rolex just turn you away? Or does the watch come back looking like it did in 1960?

They will use NOS movement parts of the caliber inside the watch. And they might change a dial or hands if they think that is needed.

Did you ever find someone to repair it
They say the main Rolex factory in genivia may be a choice

The Rolex factory in Geneva can pretty much service every watch they ever made. But the cost can sometimes be ridiculously high and there is a chance that they swap your dial and hands because they think that is needed...

Did the dealer/s bother talking to their local Service Centre first or did they just reply without checking?

The AD I took the watch to has a watchmaker on premise. He did open the watch and confirmed that he didn't have the parts. It's missing a screw and I wanted a full service as well. I'll try and post pictures.

I thought about that. Maybe in the future I will do that but for now I just wear it on dressy occasions. It still runs pretty well and so wearing it for short stints is still acceptable.

I took it to Sutters in Chicago and the CD Peacock in Oak Brook. I think the only way it gets serviced is if I do send it to Geneva.

The funny thing is I live in Geneva, just not the one is Switzerland.
