Advice Needed - Best Patek Dress Watch that Wears Casually

Hey Everyone,

I am finally feeling the pull of a Patek dress watch.
Seeing the 5270 (white dial) and 5131r in person has cast a spell on me.
But are those too dressy for more casual attire?

Since dress watches are not something I have a lot of experience with,
I am coming here to seek sage advice.

Question: Which Patek Dress watch references, metals, dial colors etc. are the easiest to wear with casual attire as well as more dressed up.
I am not looking for any Nautilus (including 5980, 5990, etc) or Aquanaut references, but more the classic (and modern) Patek dress watch references.

Main criteria
1) Definitely under $120-130K (but more realistically $50-100K range)
2) Must dress down to even jeans, shorts, sandals, nice shirts, and sharp graphic tees even. Is that possible to pull off in a fashionable way?
3) Ideally a watch that will not tank on the secondary market.

My preference would be platinum, but white gold may be necessary for monetary reasons.
Actually I am open to suggestions on which metals/dials look the sportiest.

I may have to save for a few months, but I want to begin the research phase.

Thank you kindly for your feedback

5905P or 5170G although many purists will argue they are not strictly dress watches

5905P is a little large and thick for dressy attire but I'm sure some wear it that way. 5170 would work but RG for dressy in my opinion.

Bryant, you just had a triple Rolex incoming, now tacking on another 50-100k PP?

Thanks Karl, I know you have tried many.
I like both those references very much.
Not strictly dress watches is actually perfect...

WG and black dial is very nice though I like the looks of the RG a bit better.

Haha... well, as I said I may have to save a few months.
I am happy with what I have now, but the "hole" in my collection right now is a dress watch on leather.
Just want to find one that can dress down to my "usual" casual or dress-casual attire.

Does it have to PP? I think for simple dressier pieces at that price point there are a lot of interesting options from independents.

If it doesn't have to be PP, could I suggest a Voutilainen? With some customization you get a totally unique piece, from one of the masters alive I chose a little funky for mine, but there are many different styles of Vingt-8, and within your price range, 75 for RG and 82 for PT. Karl's next week incoming may make you want to get one, it is going to be amazing, mine will have to wait for September unfortunately, wasn't ready to delay my vacation in Thailand to get it, as less than a month is not enough and August in Odessa is sacred, not ready to give up even 3 days of that.
If it has to be PP a 5905 or a 5270, both in blue dials are an awesome pick

The 2017 Basel release: 5170p (platinum). It should hit stores later this year (if it hasn't already ??). The picture is from a Patek event, so the picture quality isn't great, but the watch is pretty special.

The 5170 and 5905... love those two..
For a dress casual.. you may want to consider AP.. easy to change from bracelet to leather strap.. or Journe or ALS ... a number of dressy yet casual wearing pieces

Thanks Arnauld, I have a few months to research and get advice, so I will look forward to those (and YOUR) incomings.
My only concern is how they hold value?
I have seen some pics here on TRF, and they are gorgeous for sure, but honestly don't know that much about the brand.

Wow Stephen, that is a money shot!!
You have my attention, definitely very interested as I would ideally like platinum if it is not too much out of the ballpark on pricing.
I like the design of the 5170 over the 5905.

Keep in mind the 5170 is manual wind and the platinum version has diamond hour markers.

Yeah good point on diamonds, that might perhaps make it a bit too dressy.
Manuel wind doesn't bother me though
It is a beauty though.

Wow, I like that a LOT!!
Fulfills my love for a white dial watch and dress watch.
Is this TOO dressy though?

That brings up a question...
It seems in sports watches, like 5711 and 116500 the black/dark dials are dressier and the white a bit sportier and nicer summer watches (which here in Florida is almost all year).

With dress watches, are white dials easier to dress down to casual or are darker blue/grey/black dials?
I am asking many of you here who have had many Patek watches and how they go with more casual or dress-casual attire.

I'm not normally a diamonds-on-my-watch kind of guy, but these are done tastefully, and unless someone is looking for them, they easily may be overlooked. Try it on the wrist before ruling it out. The blue dial on this watch is spectacular. And the movement is something special.

I agree, in WG it is a little on the plain side. I'd also consider the Lange Datograph, I looked at these together and the movement of the Lange just blew me away, utterly mesmeric.

It dresses down on a matte brown strap

That is the kind of information I am looking for here.

Something like the right strap? I am guessing that is matte brown?

5146P fits the bill I'd say.
Platinum annual calendar, useful complication, appropriately sized for dress or casual, and classic Patek.

If you look at my avatar--- I have the lange Datograph and wearing today. It is a great dress watch but I wear it casually to work -- jeans and nice shirt
