Had the call...

Following on from my thread asking your thoughts on the blue 5711 a few weeks back, I put my name down. I was told that they would have an idea on allocation next February.

Currently on a two week med cruise and last week I had a call to say that they had unexpectedly received one and it was mine if I wanted. Wouldn't hold it until my return so I had to bank transfer the funds. That was done and I'll pick it up next week. I'm guessing I only had to wait 6 weeks, so I've been quite lucky.

Never had a Patek and not bought from that shop before, though they own a small chain of Rolex AD's and I'm a fairly good customer.

I guess the "i am a fairly good customer" played a big role. Even if not from that shop, seeing they have a chain your name is in their system. Congrats

Great stuff, Stephen! Could be that a couple of other guys pulled out so you took full advantage, and before the price rise too!

Who would pull out? What sort of premium does a 5711 blue fetch in the U.K. these days?

That has crossed my mind Neil as it's been so quick. I'll ask them when I get back from holiday. They did give me the first 116500 (white) and last yr a deep sea blue when they were hard to get, so to be fair have always treated me excellently. This may sound naive however as you'll know in the UK many SS Rolex are quite hard to come by and I genuinely think that because they know I love my watches and more importantly wear them and not sell them on it stands me in good stead. There's a lot of flipping for a profit (I'm not knocking that, each to their own) and I think AD's (independents in particular) would rather sell to loyal repeat customers.

Well there's a 4 year old blue currently up for 7k over list with WF - doesn't mean they will get that but it's an indication.

Someone could have pulled out though, people not on forums might not be aware of the current market.

I've personally never bought to flip and am fully intending on enjoying this :-)

People always pull out, apart from Catholics, there will be some who have bought elsewhere and some who are going on holiday now and the missus forbids spending until she's had a proper good time first.

If your AD is in Devon maybe there aren't so many serious buyers for a 20k SS watch there, in big cities a lot of them will be overseas buyers too.
