Can anything beat the oyster bracelet?

If given a choice between the two, I much prefer the aesthetic and comfort of the jubilee over the oyster.

Bracelets don’t “stretch”. Lack of maintenance results in worn pins in any style bracelet. Even the “though” oyster.

Solid links don't prevent wear. The area that is susceptible to wear is essentially the same thickness on the old hollow link bracelet and the new solid link. Pins are basically the same size too and those take most of the wear. The only difference is the solid link prevents some of the pin pivot and will slow down the wear a little bit.

That is incorrect on a few points. The pins and contact area that wear are significantly thicker than the older hollow link bracelet. It is true all friction points wear if not kept clean but the new super jubilee is solid at all of those wear points like the modern solid oyster. This translates into tighter fitting bracelet links for a longer time than the hollow links, all wear conditions being equal. For today’s ocd Rolex owner the bracelet will probably feel tight as new for decades.

I’m speaking only on the oyster. The area of the link that wears is the same thickness.



There is a slight difference in pin diameter, but it’s really not much.

the president bracelet is more comfortable than the oyster. it is like having a seamless band around your wrist. but is more prone to bracelet stretch.

What technician design makes the oyster bracelet the superior dive bracelet design?? Other than marketing names why wouldn’t the Jubilee make a outstanding dive bracelet? I can’t see any technical reason it wouldn’t. Strength and durability is not a issue and the oyster bracelet and jubilee bracelet share the same construction with the same fastening system to the case and clasp. Both are 904L so even its corrosion resistance for diving are equal.

The oyster name is on all Rolex cases since it’s first Datejust to signify they are water resistant and not all of those are technically marketed as dive watches.

The Jubilee has been a Rolex icon since 1945 so it’s historical provenance is unquestionable as it was Rolex’s very first in-house bracelet design before the oyster. The oyster bracelet design was not by Rolex but by Gay Frères a independent bracelet company that supplied Rolex with this initial design. The “oyster” name for the bracelet was later borrowed from the water resistant watch case first named the “oyster”. FYI..Rolex wasn’t the primary inventor of the water resistant watch case. Perregaux and Peret invented the first screw in crown that made the water resistant screw on case back “Oyster” possible for Rolex. Shockingly, Rolex marketing likes to take credit for the entire process.

Think about this, the heavier the bracelet the more friction in the joints . Heavier/ solid are sometime marketing words that don't mean much in the real world.

Would you buy it? Purely speculation on your part. Personally I think jubilee bracelets look horrible on the Submariner. Like installing Bentley wheels on your Porsche
