Great choice Ken, and I do like Rose Gold.

Of the current offerings, I think a real gem is the 5116. A timeless Patek offering a subtle, yet extremely notable flair of excitement with its kiln fired enamel dial and exhibition back. The hobnail bezel in white gold also beautifully compliments the pure white enamel dial. This watch has a gem like quality which is only revealed upon a close inspection of the watch allowing it be both understated and dramatic. I also love the perfect symmetry of the dial (and subdial), undisturbed by any further complication. Observation of the movement through the sapphire back is also uninterrupted by the motion of self-winding rotor in this manually wound caliber. It is, in short, visually flawless from all angles.

Check this one out on the Patek website and click on the Gallery on that page to see high res photos of the gorgeous enamel dial set against the white gold case.
I agree on the 5116. I hope it will be released in yellow gold. And I love seeing "EMAIL" on the dial.

Do the manual or self winding Calatrava's hold their value better?

Does the Rose Gold on Patek fade over time? Or do they have a special alloy like Rolex (Everose Gold).

I'm tempted to buy myself a new Calatrava or Rolex Day Date.

I think all Patek's will hold their value pretty well, whether the movement is a manual winding or self winding one. As for the rose gold, it's always solid gold so it doesn't fade and I personally never noticed a serious color change in rose gold, I wouldn't worry too much about the fact that it's not Everose gold like Rolex uses (don't forget that it's a pretty recent alloy as well, who knows if it will stay the same color in twenty years). As for the Calatrava versus the Day-Date, it really is a matter of opinion so it depends on what you're looking for.

As far as I'm concerned I think the Calatrava is much more elegant and it would be my choice, I would personally be able to wear it with jeans as well but some will think the Day-Date would probably be more versatile so it's up to what you like and think.

My first Patek was a 3919J...

But this is definitely one of my favorites just because of the Hobnail patterned bezel.
... then I got a 5119R. Loved them both.

My dress watch "Grail". But make it the 5119j (yellow gold).

I'm not yet in a position to drop that kind of dough on a watch I'll only ever wear once in a blue moon but have dropped enough hints that it's what I'd like for my 40th, if I haven't bought myself one first. The Long-Haired General has got just over five years to save her pennies!

The 5296R is my favourite Calatrava, Rose gold and blue hands is the best combi ever.

A rose gold 5119 would be a very welcome addition .....

This was the first Patek I was introduced to, saw it in the window 25 years ago & went in to ask about it...... Coincidentally that was also when I first noticed Cindy crawford, I know she's a rep for omega, but in my mind, Cindy and the hobnailed bezel are like peanut butter & jelly:-)

You saw maybe the 3919 25 years ago? Or Cindy Crawford too...? :)

Yes I didn't remember the #, but the earlier model was 34mm & had a beautiful porcelain dial (exquisite!)

5296G-010 for me. The corwnguard on the 5127 is kinda cool too but the 5296 seems abit more timeless in design.

5119J for me. Looked at the different gold and just didn't feel right with White or Rose Gold. The yellow gold is perfect as it matches the white dial.

My two favorites are the 5127 and 5296. Would have to see rose vs. yellow gold up close. Something simple and classic about the 5296 but the 5127 crown guards provide a sturdiness that is also nice. Probably my two favorite watches in the world.

Not that this matters ;-) but do these watches hack? Is one larger than the other?

Never actually considered the 5296 until seeing this thread. I like how it is 38mm.

Is there a reason why there is a 5296R with blue hands, and another 5296R with the more traditional dial and RG hands?

Am I able to get the 5296R with a black strap?

Reason is I feel that formal occasions need a black strap, not brown.

Hi guys, can i ask, i really like the 5119 in yellow gold but is this watch really impossible to dressdown? my casual attire mostly consist of collared shirts with jeans. does this one only works with a suit? i've tried this one at my AD and its really very comfortable to wear so i am thinking for getting more wrist time with it?
