Trade opinions and caution

Hi All,

I currently have a 2 year old Black Ceramic Daytona looking to trade plus cash for a Blue Sky Dweller. Market is high for both; makes sense money wise. I have a white Daytona so I wouldn't be Daytonaless. Worried I might miss the Black dial though!

My main concern is by trading my Daytona, am I jeopardizing the AD I purchased it from? I am not a "flipper" and have amassed a crazy collection over the past few years but we all get that "itch".

Open to feedback.

If you are selling your Daytona two years after you bought it I don't think that meets the definition of "flipper." Flippers generally buy, then sell immediately without even sizing the bracelet or removing any remaining plastics. So I wouldn't worry about that at all.

What size wrist do you have. Big size difference between the two. Have you ever tried a Sky on your wrist?

IMO the DaytonaC is worth more than the SkyD Blue. So it's at worst a 1:1, straight up trade, or the SkyD owner adds a 1-3K.

No. This is the opposite of a flip by definition.

Ignore the market, scarcity, 'hot models', how much it's worth, AD status, etc... and get the watch that you want to wear.

If I were in your shoes, I would- knowing you already have a Daytona

Thanks for the feedback thus far!

I have tried on a Rolesor SKY-D before and on my 7.25" wrist sits well. I have a SD43 I love and have a newer 126660 D-Blue that after a few days on the wrist gets more comfortable to wear.

To make this deal I would have to add 3K to make this happen which I am comfortable with. But I agree the Daytona C could be worth more long term.

The current values of the watches IMO work to my advantage if to move around to another hot model as calculation wise I would have never paid over MSRP etc.

Your DaytonaC Black is worth conservatively $18,000-$22,0000 at current market pricing. Unless yours is beat up and his is BNIB, there's no way I'd add money to make the trade UNLESS (and this voids all arguments) you simply WANT it. If it makes you happy, go for it!

Mine is actually super mint condition with some stickers (but reading all the chatter on the forums I would remove them to protect AD and don't care if it's worth less).

Thanks for the insight. This is a WANT and an impulse 100% but as I don't have any fluted bezels, could make sense . His is BNIB open and full stickers.

If you love it, go for it. You may be getting a good value as the 116500 went up a lot since your purchase. I do not know if you paid MSRP on the Daytona, but $3k is a good deal on your end if you did.

However if you ever have the itch for a Daytona again, and do not have one in your collection it will be costly to get another one, or a long wait at AD level.

As noted above, go for the watch you most love to own and wear. Values aside, you should go with what makes you happy. I have traded many pieces seldom making any $ but I ended up with a YG Sub and I am happy. That's what matters, at least to me.

Go for it! Since you already have a white Daytona and larger watches work for you I see no reason not to

Agreed. But that element of regret too I might feel. My collection is all the "hot" models sans Blue Sky'D...but then I would be trading one hot for hot i guess.

But never had a Sky-Dweller! Oh the excitement of collecting haha.

Is the white daytona you have a ceramic?

I like variety so I would prefer a Daytona and Sky Dweller over a Daytona and a Daytona

Who cares what people think. Do what makes you happy. Flip it all you want. A lot of jealous people out there who would do the same if they were given the opportunity.

Yes sir . The coveted white ceramic. Got lucky in 2017 on one and boy has the market gone gaga over that.

Makes sense to move the black dial Daytona since you have the white. Go for it.
As others have said, you should be getting some cash back through for a SkYD, even a blue dial one.

While not obsessed with variety/diversity in my collection, it is definitely a factor and I am conscious of redundancy. When I switch watches within my collection, I like that it has a very different feel from the last watch I wore. I think this is important in a 5 or less watch collection.

Definitely want the watch. It's more the sacrifice. I don't wear it often (probably a handful of times) but its a cool feeling knowing I have both watches. Thinking hard on this decision.

That's what I am thinking in terms of value. The Daytona is worth about the same as a Sky-D equity wise. To add 3k I technically lose unrealized profit. But I also look at it as I paid MSRP for the Daytona plus 3K.

All my watches are Ceramic right now so this would add diversity for sure! The only non Day-Date fluted I would ever need.

I'd have the dude giving ME extra cash on top of the SkyD, not the other way around.
