Quick apology and in need of help with a dress watch.

First, I apologize for saying the 43mm sea dweller is for big dumb animals. I have a smaller wrist and thought it looked extremely awkward.

Second, my only dress watch is a date just on a jubilee. I am in desperate need of a leather strap PM watch around 25-30K.

Third, I know you are sick of this watch vs that watch threads but i need the advice of experts.

Rolex Cellini moon phase vs Vacheron Constantin fifty six? Other options?

I was looking at the rose gold moon phase VC 56.

If it was me, I’d get the VC all day but to be honest, I don’t have any experience with the Cellini. Can’t go wrong either way. 56 is a cool line for sure. Good luck with your decision.

Have you looked at a pre owned Lange?

If you're looking to buy new, go with the VC-- it's a really well made watch for that price point. You could also consider an IWC portugueser classic PM model for even less. I love that watch.

What about an IWC? You can probably get this from a grey. Or the 7 day without the moon phase. https://www.iwc.com/us/en/watch-coll...-calendar.html

For your first point, very big of you to apologize. I never saw the thread but it takes a lot for someone to admit they were in the wrong and ask for forgiveness on a forum.

Two, I would sway you away from the crown for a dress watch. Look at the Lange Saxonia series; amazing quality and craftsmanship for under your budget new, and more if you go pre-owned. I would also look into a VC Patrimony manual wind.

As for the third question - I would go VC.

I’m keen to know the circumstances that brought you to this dire situation of needing a $25-30K dress watch on a strap without knowing which one you like. I certainly hope everything works out in your favor.

I know several that I like. I named two. 25-30k is the upper limit I want to spend. The VC can be discounted into that range.

the fifty-six was a watch I thought could be the one for me. I was really disappointed when I saw it in person. Not sure if you're looking into the SS or a PM, but I handled the SS version and it felt kind of cheap.

The Cellini Moon Phase is a watch that looks amazing and feels great! As a dress piece I would pick one up for sure.

The Moonphase is a great watch. That would be my pick.

If you love moon phase, I would recommend the Patek 5146..Great watch, and great price for second market

Hav you considered the Patek World Time? I think its just as classy as the Moonphase but a little more complex dial. Would be my ultimate dress watch.

If you meant to joke you succeeded - I had a good laugh.

Luckily my parents are happy to see me no matter how I am dressed or which watch I am wearing. They might question my judgement if I showed up w an expensive brand new dress watch... but that is just them.

If the main reason for getting a dress watch is a meet w your dad I would recommend borrowing rather than buying... If that doesn't work you should get whatever you can sell w minimum loss if you wish to do so after seeing your dad.

I agree a Patek 5196 - preferably preowned - could be the solution. Still an expensive get-together I am afraid.

Go on youtube and check out threads like " 10 best dress watches of all time" and similar sites, you'll get lots of ideas. You may also consider a vintage Omega until you make up your mind. You can find nice vintage Omega Seamaster Devilles for under $500.00.

I would stay away from brand new VC, ALS, AP and JLC dress watches. They fall like a rock after purchase and can be had slightly pre-owned for a song depending on the model. If I had 25k and wanted a strap dress watch I would look at the Rolex DD 36 mm on alligator. Once again a watch that can be had for a large discount new and close to a huge discount pre-owned. If I was not going to go that route I would look at a pre-owned JLC dress watch for 6-8 k and take the rest of the money and buy a SS BLRO on the Jubilee. Good luck.

VC. If you want to go pre-owned, Watchbox has one for sale (still time on the factory warranty):

I bet you already have a watch with a leather strap.

Correct but I never wear a suit (or a strap watch) when visiting my parents unless I am attending a wedding or a funeral up there.

Just don't buy new as you will take a major bath if you decide to sell again in the current market environment. You have been warned.

Compromise maybe – VC Overseas – maybe not a “dress watch” by strict definition but interchangeable strap and bracelet – gives options. Just a thought.
