In Peter's (Padi's) absence, I'll say it for him; "papers are much easier to copy than the watch." At work one of the supervisors was really proud of his ko Sub. It was a really good copy of a 114060 for about two weeks until it stopped running and it could no longer be set. What a waste of a hundred bucks. Nothing beats buying the source. Does anyone think that the Newmann Daytona would have sold for more with papers?

From one of the trusted sellers on this forum, why not? We trust buying watches from them if it comes with papers, but not otherwise?

I would buy it. But if my coworker sells me a stolen watch he won't be coming to work tomorrow.

For a 5-digit reference or older I would, but for a 6-digit like the Hulk I would not unless the seller has a valid reason for not having the warranty card.

Nope, I’d buy without the box but paper is another story.

In this day and age, never.
I would not even consider buying preowned.
Too many super fakes out there, you never know whether you got a good deal, or become the victim of a scam.

Like... His house was on fire and burnt the b&p, but luckily (coincidentally) he was wearing the Hulk.

This.

I've seen fake warranty cards (and I speculate others here have seen them too. They're pretty insane.

It costs $100-$150 (depending where you live) to get a Rolex authenticated. I'd just factor that into the price and move on, rather than leave yourself exposed to a loss of thousands of dollars.

By the way, do people still throw away their warranty cards and boxes these days? For a small piece of consumer electronics, fine- but a $9-$10K piece?

If it gets authenticated, I am totally fine with it. I would just be bummed if it was a newer piece as there would be no warranty if something should go wrong. After warranty period, what is a little card (or paper) going to do for you that an AD can't verify?

If the coworker were the original buyer from the AD I might consider it, but I’d still want some type of proof of purchase. Otherwise, no way and never.

Not true. It's only a crime if you knew it was stolen and they can prove it.

Just buying an item that has been stolen is not a crime.

If the watch could be authenticated by an AD and they signed off on it I would buy without papers, but the price would need to be discounted accordingly.

I didn't say it was a crime to buy the watch not knowing that it was stolen. I made two points, badly punctuated which might have looked like one statement. Sorry.

And that doesn't change the fact that you will lose the watch if it is proved to be stolen and rightfully belong to someone else.

Sure, done it a few times. Buy the seller and the watch, not necessarily the paperwork.
