An emotional (and happy) Daytona C story.

Kind of difficult to write this down, maybe just because I was up all night working, but anyway.

Jump back to 1995, I was a Sierra Hotel (Sh*t Hot) Navy Fighter pilot, Desert Storm veteran with one dogfight, on top of the world, cocky, self centered, a real piece of work. Oh, and I was young and even handsome (really!). Nothing could phase me. Then, I made a bad decision, a mistake. The kind of mistake you never really forgive yourself for, but through the years learn to live with. Fast forward a couple years.

I have been kicked out of the Navy (HONORABLE Discharge, but kicked out nonetheless), trying to find my way in the civilian world, depressed, broke, about to lose my home, complete opposite of what I had been; curious how quickly life can change on you. I had a friend, a good friend although we hadn't known each other that long. He helped me in so many ways through this difficult time. Besides lending me money to keep my home, he made me believe in myself again, apply myself and live with the mistake I made. After a few years things started to improve in my life. Where are they now? Well, that can be debated, but what can not be is I am in a much better place because of my friend.

Now let's jump to 2015. My friend, who is also a WIS (has an AirKing) and I are having dinner and looking at the Basel releases. When we get to the C Daytona, his eyes nearly pop out of his head. We all know the look. He asks about how he could get one, has called, tried, but (not suprisengly) has not gotten any closer to being able to get one... until now. Because of my relationship with my AD I was put at the top of the list for the C, I actually am getting the second one they are receiving, but who cares. I got the call, went in this afternoon and paid; the "C" should get here Monday or Tuesday.

I am giving this watch to my friend. I am giving it to him for helping me all those years ago, and every day since then. He knows nothing about it, I can't wait to see the look on his face when I hand it over. I am fortunate to have a friend like that in my life, I wish everyone the same blessing.

I know.. I know, PICS or it didn't happen. Well, until next Tuesday this is all I got:

Knowing you used your clout to jump ahead of me on the list for this Nobile Gesture makes me happy you did...

Hey Paul good on you man. Finding a friend to help through hard times is hard. But it is twice as hard to find one (like yourself) who reciprocates. This friend is not Jocke right?

You sir are the richest man here because kindness and generosity like that is rarer than any jewel. Hats off to you and to your friend who richly deserves it.

Paul,

As one former Navy man to another, it seems to me that the Navy made the mistake.

Above and beyond my friend. Although it is a great watch, it will mean a lot more to both of you. Do share some pictures of his reactions.
