Instagram grays hoarding ss

What does everyone think of the insta dealers posting a dozen hulks, arm full of batmans ect? There are quite a few seemingly sitting on tons of watches but @watchtradingco is the worst on my feed.

That they will hurt when the prices turn south and they have to liquidate everything in a margin call.

Exact same thing CRM Jewellers in Miami are saying. I've actually been there and Eric is a cool guy. They know their watches. I know grays market dealers are hoarding as well. I've seen more than 15 SS White Daytona's in a single gray dealers safe in Asia and he said that is nothing. LOL

CRM seem to think its the beginning of the end of the peak. He actually mentioned in there so many grays are hoarding these watches and he doesn't even want to buy a BLNR these days. LOL

Here is the vid.

Patek 5711 and 5980 drop $20k in 2 weeks? WTF thats scary.

What I think is that there’s a few unnecessary scratches being added to the gmts and Daytona’s in the last 2 photos...

The thoughts that cross my mind are:

1) Glad I bought my Hulk at retail in 2013
2) The most Hulks I've seen at one place is 10 (store in HK) - this is double that.
3) I've been watching a Hulk in a local gray that has been on the market for the past 3 months at $15K USD. I'd be nervous if I had 20 of these. Mind you, these people have very deep pockets.
4) It's sad that these aren't on people's wrists.

According to their information, they are a wholesaler. They apparently don't sell to consumers.

That's really upsetting. It'll all end in tears, and then those of us who want to buy these 'hot' models to love and wear, will finally have the chance.

Can’t imagine Rolex isn’t complicit in all this, otherwise how can these guys post so openly without their supply drying up? Makes the whole idea of removing packaging and holding onto warranty cards seem ridiculous.

And while guys like the original poster advertise these facts on the various watch forum, this trend will continue in many way the WIS is his/hers own enemy.

They all look like high quality fakes to me? you would think they could afford a decent camera to snap all of these watches because the photo quality is poor.

That was my first thought too. You have to wonder if they are real.

I'm not affiliated with these guys or have any nefarious reasons to post besides the fact I have become enlightened and educated on the state of affairs. Instead of wanting to buy one of these "hot and scarce" watches I wish I could short the market. I'm stepping back. Reminds me of the housing crisis where these companies were hoarding houses and selling them at inflated prices to people that couldn't afford them but willing to pay.

I just wanted everyone to know it's all smoke and mirrors, the scarcity is false and the dealers are selling direct to these guys.If anything I would think it would stop this kind of thing knowing that all the consumer has to do is wait out the hoarders till the price tanks.

Not exactly new. Most guys already know about this its just those that didnt want to believe it in the first instance when these rumors started. Now the ship has long sailed and everyone knows about it.

That is the reason why I think the market is softening. Like you said its all smoke and mirrors and the more people are educated of the false rarity stuff the gray market will drop in price.

CRM have predicted it above and they are at the forefront of the gray market as they are one of the biggest ones. To see $20k price drops in gray prices for Pateks 5711/5980 is crazy scary especially within 2 weeks. That is Patek. Imagine what could happen to Rolex - a brand that makes millions more watches and is nowhere near as rare or hard to get as Patek sports models.

Lets see what happens in the next 6 months.

I put my money on the market softening quite some bit.

Good to know... My info was solely derived from their own communication.
Any idea why they'd want to communicate differently? If you have hard to get pieces, I would assume you'd want to advertise this as much as possible, no? Especially since your margin would be substantially higher when selling direct-2-consumer.

I think its all part of the "hard to get" show that would drive prices for gmts more than double their retail. Its a game. They will sell- for what they are asking if you think you cant get it.

Which is why I firmly believe that the SS shortage is artificial, but not because Rolex is specifically limiting supply but rather because the Grey (and it’s supporting infrastructure that includes dealers that would rather sell to Greys for more money) have been hoarding SS Professional models. It creates a self-sustaining vicious cycle where an overhang if demand makes more people want those specific watches, and that overhang of demand gets further exacerbated by the Grey market soaking up additional watches. Which results in more demand both from buyers and resellers.

The timepieces themselves are not necessarily ‘rare.’ If every single poster on this thread wanted a LVc Submariner Date within 48 hours, and is willing to go Grey market prices, even single posted on this thread WOULD get a LVc Submariner Date.

Every. Single. One.

That means it’s not a rarity or a supply issue, but simply a price issue.

Now, a Blue- Face Sky Dweller or a King Midas or a George Daniel Co-Axial Chronograph would be difficult to find if everyone on this thread was willing to get one. Most, but not all, would get the SkyD; a very few would get a good working-condition King Midas, and only one would get Mr. Daniel’s co-axial Chronograph.

Those are all rather than the LVc Submariner with Date, ranging from a little more rare for the SkyD Blue to hens’ teeth draped over a unicorn horn for Mr Daniel’s one-of-a-kind marvel.

For the LVcs and BLNRs and (more recently apparently) DJs it is all (primarily) due to hoarding.
