It is not related solely to TRF usage, as many others on the Mac related chat forums have experienced the same issue and they are not members of TRF. It may happen with bulletin board type web-sites.

As for the use of smileys you can still use them if you know the keyboard short cut codes which are printed next to the full list of smilies..

I just did a google search for "iOS5 Ipad Safari Crash" and there are a heap of links to this widespread problem.

After reading quite a lot it appears that this is a bug in the new iOS5 and it applied to iPads. It seems to be related to memory/cache management.

There is nothing I can do, but as many other iPad users are saying I hope that Apple releases a service update soon to rectify this problem.

I have an iPad2 and am experiencing the Safari crashes. I've tried all I can to get a fix, but there isn't one.

So we are in the hands and at the mercy of the Apple developers.

There is a new software iOS for iPad 5.0.1

With any luck this will fix bugs found in the initial iOS 5.0 release.

For the first time you can update your iPad iOS (operating system) without having to connect via your computer and itunes.

I had the same problem. A restart fixed it. Wait a few minutes before restarting the iPad.

Happens to me too... Absolutely hate it.... Don't mind doing a quick reply without emoticons, but issue is when I try to make an actual post and have to restart it a number of times, from scratch. Have resorted to writing the actual text in DocsToGo's word processor, and cut-paste. Hope apple solves it quickly.

It is a bug and was not fixed on last update. It is a royal pain in the rear and hopefully they get it on next update!

I have the same problem with my new iPad 2. Works fine in the quick reply function but the regular reply and edit functions crash safari.

I can do without the smilies but I do like to use the quote function in some posts and can't. Oh well. The mobility makes up for it I guess.

Good day all, My 4S safari crashed as i was posting this morning. 5.0.1 version. I looked up some info and it appears to be a very real issue on all forums, Not just TRF. (As others, including the BOSS have stated) I have not tried this, But the common fix is to wait for the circle to stop spinning in your tab before you start entering text. The crashes look like they are most common when text is being entered. (This is when my crash occurred)

I plan on bypassing the issue with tapatalk. I know it is not a fix, But it is my fix.

I am sure the fix will come in the next iOS upgrade.

I checked the 'crash history' on my iPad and it came up as a memory management issue.

That makes sense as the problem never occurred with iOS4, so it seems that there is a bug in the memory management software of iOS5.

The tip stated above "wait until the reply page is fully loaded" may be a temporary solution, but this problem is something that really needs an Apple software release to rectify.

I can't do anything about it as it's not a problem with the forum. and Apple don't want to hire me to fix it for them.

So I would suggest that one could also invest in "Tapatalk" for a few dollars its a geat iPhone and iPad application.

I think you're right Chris!!
The 5.1 update does seem to have solved the issue, and it's about time as it was extremely annoying!

Happy days for the iPad users!

O.K. so you were the odd man out....

Given that the NEW iPad3 is so great with 4G what's the point when it has been made to be totally incompatible with Australian 4G networks.......

Its like the new improved iPad without any improvement at all, its just marketing hype.

An updated camera and better screen resolution is about it!

A 5mp camera is a bit lame really given todays technology.

OK you got me on a few pixels on screen resolution but that doesn't make up for the lack of them on the camera.

Agreed!

As for the 4G, I've never had the chance to experience this!
We do have a compatible network here in Canada I believe, but just not in my area unfortunately.

I'll sit on the fence on this one, and perhaps upgrade with the next.

I'm just glad Apple has fixed the crashing issue..

I probably have no choice but to buy the new iPad3....

The Samsung Galaxy tab 10.1 is more expensive for a 32gig version than the iPad3.

Acer is brought out a new model with a 1.4gig processor and an improved resolution, but it has known issues with reports of wifi and 3g poor connectivity and reception problems.

The iPad3 seems like the best of what is a average bunch at the moment. Imagine iPad3 4g that doesn't work due to frequency programming in Australia....Apple how could you do that

I did John, that is the model with reported poor wifi and 3g....it seems to be related to the rear aluminium cover which seems to inhibit wireless communications.

They have already scheduled a replacement for that transformer model in mid to 3rd quarter this year

Thanks anyway bro!!!!

I'm so glad I stumbled upon this thread.

My experience was exactly the same as the OP, Numismatist, and equally as frustrating. Like others who have posted, I didn't realize I wasn't alone in having the same problem. I have usually been hesitant when it come to Apple updates (I'm still using an iPhone 3G) and had been cursing myself after I eventually updated to iOS 5.0 on my iPad 2 when it apparently caused the forum issues.

I literally only just upgraded to iOS 5.1 after reading this thread. Thanks all!
