Yes it seems a long time ago since I had like 10 ROOs!! I don't regret my change of direction for one nanosecond! As for Lange, I want one, but not a collection - Datograph Perpetual White Gold still haunting me!!

Roger, what are your thoughts between the lemania movement vs the pp inhouse ?

Do you have a preference? Pros n cons?

Just a heads up the Lemania is an in house movement.

Really Sam? I had no idea about this. So why did they change it? Or is it the same now renamed Patek movement?

Hey Logan,

The Lemania based chronograph calibers after modifications by Patek (CH27-70 in 5070) have rendered them practically in-house calibers.

I could go into more details, however, I am quickly approaching my bedtime!

I won't comment for Roger but I own both the 5970J and 5270g. This 5270 is light years ahead technology wise. The Lemania is 30 year old technology. The 5270 has some patented parts that were the first changes since the late 1800's.

No doubt the PP in house movement (sorry, I don't consider Lemania in house because it's not made nor designed by Patek, just highly decorated+perpetual module) is superior technically, aesthetically however, many still thinks the Lemania is better looking.

Personally they don't look all that much different to me, I think the Lange Dato perpetual got the best looking movement of them three.

Also congrats to the OP for picking the 5970P, it's one of the best looking Patek in my opinion.

Yes I too have always considered the Lemania as a non-Patek but heavily PP-modified external ebauche. The supply I guess dried up at the time the 5070/5970 models were discontinued. Presumably PP had started R&D on their in-house versions well before the Lemania supply became a serious issue. I don't have a view on the aesthetics - I find them both fascinating, but I would agree also that the finishing of the Datograph Perpetual is more interesting than both.

It is nice having a 5970 again, I had a 5970G (and for that matter a 3970G as well) some time back, but the P model was always in my mind.

5270P black face for PP's 175th I wonder? If they do, that's going to be a real dilemma!

Just hope it doesn't come with the dip dial. If so it would be the ultimate Patek for me, with a nice clean dial for a perp chrono.

Yes exactly without the Jay Leno dial I will be all over that. 5204P black or blue face would also be very interesting!

Yes the Marcus RM011 went - I have owned it for nearly two years which is a miracle for me but the new strategy will have much lower turnover than I have had of late. And I still have one RM just for emergencies!

A lot of people ask me that, but the answer is no. I don't like Nautilus, Aquanaut, Gondolo, or Ellipse ranges. Of course I understand that many people do like them, and they are nice watches, they just don't do anything for me.

I am not sure how one classifies the 5100 however, which I do like!

This one takes the cake my friend.
