Which would be a good first Panerai?

I've always liked Panerai but have never owned one. Which would be a good first one? I do like the white as it is a little different. The 1499 has really jumped out at me! Does Panerai lose value? They seem to be selling at quite a discount from retail. Thoughts would be appreciated!!

I dig it and it looks great but I would never use the GMT function.

There are some incredible enablers on here. They helped me no end. In the end I wanted a base (2 hand) piece and after trying a few found that 44mm manual was the most comfortable. Definitely go and try them on. Here's my ltd 390

Then hide the hand and it’s a traditional 3 handed with date.

Unfortunately here in Cincinnati there doesn’t seem a jeweler to be found to try them in or see in person. I was in Vegas a few months back and while at Ceasers I should’ve tried on a few

If you are certain you want a white dial, go with a good condition 113.

I like the idea of a date function. How does the white dial look in person compared to black?

PAM's vary in price according to the in/non-in house movements, function, case, strap etc just like other brands. You can get your hands on a PAM for 5k or 15k. It depends on what you want. There are so many variations its hard to choose lol.

I would highly recommend going to an AD and check out the differences between them.

113, or 114. If you could do without a white dial then a zero would be my suggestion, and the older version without the springbars.

Icon6 Most likely best route to take for WDL

Can be found reasonably priced and will give you the feel to find out if PAMs are for you.

They are all great. My 590 sang to me as soon as it landed on my wrist at the AD

None of the older models like the 000, 113 or 114 used spring bars. As for your black dials, yes, 000, absolutely, great choice (see Nick's photo).

This is real solid advice from Nick. Pick up a 000 in mint condition and if you decide it's not for you, which would stun me, then you won't lose a lot of money.

I have to say here that I'm no expert, I'm simply a fan of the brand, but AFAIK white dial PAMs are not huge sellers so I would shoot for a pretty big discount before pulling the trigger. In fact, as you're in the US I'd even go so far as to say to contact a TRF trusted seller.

If I were looking for a white dial, it would be the 654 Flyback. Stunning piece.

Good luck.

That 654 is definitely a beautiful piece but too much for me. I’ve decided on the 000 for sure now. I just have to find one. Any idea on preowned prices? You hanks guys

That's the new version, the 1005. Go for the 005, original and best.
